What's Happening in the F/1 Classroom?
This fortnight we have focussed on the /v/ sound. We began by focusing on words and names we knew that had an /v/ sound at the beginning and then progressed to finding words with /m/ as the middle or ending sound, using visual assistance from Soundwaves.
We are excited to share an important new initiative at our school: individualised learning goals for each student. Starting this week, our students will be introduced to their personalised learning objectives, which they will be working on throughout the week in the classroom.
Individualised learning goals are specific, tailored objectives designed to meet the unique needs and strengths of each student. These goals will help our students focus on areas where they can grow and excel, ensuring that their learning is both challenging and rewarding.
To achieve these goals, students will participate in teacher focus groups. These groups are small, allowing for targeted instruction and personalised support. During these sessions, teachers will work closely with students to address their specific learning goals, providing guidance, resources, and feedback.
We believe that the partnership between school and home is crucial for student success. We encourage you to discuss your child's learning goals with them. Ask about what they are working on, what they find exciting or challenging, and how you can support their efforts at home. Your involvement and encouragement can make a significant difference in their progress and motivation.
We are confident that this approach will enrich your child's educational experience and help them achieve their full potential. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education
This term, our numeracy sessions will be engaging and diverse, focusing on foundational concepts that build essential math skills. Our primary areas of exploration will include the concept of time, basic addition and subtraction, and an introduction to multiplication and division through sharing and partitioning.
Exploring Time: Students will delve into understanding time through exciting and relatable contexts. They will learn about time by examining the Olympics, discovering how events are scheduled, and exploring their own family and life timelines. This approach helps students connect abstract concepts to their everyday experiences, making learning more meaningful.
Addition and Subtraction: We will reinforce these fundamental operations with hands-on activities and interactive lessons. Students will practice solving problems and applying their knowledge in various contexts to build confidence and proficiency.
Introduction to Multiplication and Division: Through activities centered on sharing and partitioning, students will start to grasp the basics of multiplication and division. These concepts will be introduced in a practical, visual manner, helping students understand how numbers can be grouped and divided.
Our goal is to provide a rich, engaging learning environment where students develop a solid foundation in numeracy while enjoying the process.
The Blind Beggar
This term, our school is delving into the profound and inspiring Gospel story of the Blind Beggar. Students have engaged deeply with this story, using their creativity to respond to its messages and themes. They explored the story's elements through various artistic and reflective activities, which allowed them to express their understanding and interpretations.
Students shared their wonderings and creative responses with the entire school community, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and reflections. This collaborative sharing not only enhanced their learning experience but also allowed them to appreciate the diverse perspectives of their peers.
Looking ahead, our focus will shift to exploring 'Our Special Book,' the Bible. Students will embark on a journey to understand the Bible's significance, its features, and its role in our faith. They will examine the Bible as a historical and spiritual text, learning about its structure, content, and the messages it conveys.
Through this exploration, we aim to deepen students' appreciation for the Bible and its teachings, reinforcing the values and stories that are central to our faith. This term promises to be a meaningful exploration of both creative expression and spiritual understanding.
We have had a fantastic semester of learning and growing. It's been amazing to see the children adjust to school life and learn all about our school routines. We would like to thank our parents for supporting us in educating your child by reading at home, letter identification tasks and continuing to practise our Numeracy skills.
