Denise's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back!  It is wonderful to have all our children back at school and to hear about all the fun things they did during their holidays. Some families enjoyed holidays away and others spent time relaxing and enjoying family time at home, whatever you did I hope you had an enjoyable time and were able to re-engerise ready for all the excitement Term 3 brings with it.

Term 3 began with all our Staff engaging in a professional learning day focusing on 'Feedback through Effective Conversations'. Effective feedback is a key element in helping us learn and improve ourselves in whatever field we are engaged in. Our staff have set goals they will continue to work on throughout Term 3 to grow and learn and become even better at what they already do so well.

The term ahead brings with it many exciting events including Prep 100 days at school celebration, the Olympics, celebration of First Reconciliation Sacrament, Book Week, Feast of the Assumption of Mary, Father's Day special morning and stall, Year 3/4 camp, and many more. Please continue to check our school calendar so you know what is coming up.

Staff News

Congratulations to Lucinda Goring, our Prep L teacher on her recent engagement with her partner Tom Lamplugh.

We wish them every happiness and blessing as they begin the preparations for their wedding.

Congratulations also to Sarah Nichol, our PE Teacher, and her husband Matthew Nichol on the news of their pregnancy announcement, a baby brother or sister for their son Logan. Sarah's baby is due next year and she will continue teaching PE until the end of this year.

Grandparents Day

We celebrated Grandparents and Special Friends' Day on Wednesday and what a fabulous celebration it was. The pride and joy in the faces of both our children and their families was a beautiful sight to behold, thank you all so much for spending the morning with us! Special thanks to our Community Leaders Fiona and Sarah for leading the organisation of the day, to Hang, REL Leader for a most moving prayer liturgy, and to Stacey for the great entertainment provided by our choir and rock band.

Staff CPR Training

At our Wednesday after school Staff Professional Learning Meeting St Michael's staff undertook their Annual CPR training. All staff are required to complete their  CPR training each year, it is a course that we all take very seriously as one method of keeping our community safe. Our children will also engage in a basic First Aid course later this year.

Emergency Evacuation Drill

We will be practicing another Emergency Management Drill with our children next Tuesday. The drill will involve practicing getting inside to a safe area as quickly as possible The drill prepares us for an emergency outside our school that may pose a danger that we need to be away from. Such dangers could be a gas leak, fire, police emergencies, or a dangerous person in the school vicinity. We don't anticipate any of the events happening but we do need to practice what to do in such cases. I ask you to help prepare your child for this drill by explaining to them that they are safe and that it is a drill. The school will go into lockdown mode between 2.15pm and 2.45pm and anyone within the school will need to take part in the drill.

School Closure Day - TUESDAY 13TH AUGUST

Our school will be closed on this day as all staff will be engaged in Professional Learning related to Mathematics. This day will be led by Robert Vingerhoots, a well respected Mathematics consultant.

Their Care will provide a full-day program for children. If you require care for your child on this day please make a booking with Their Care.

Feast of The Assumption Parish Mass

Fr Nicholas invites families to join with him and the St Michael's parish to mass to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. Mass will be celebrated in St Michael's church at 8am on Thursday 15th August. After Mass, families can drop their children back at school.

Principal News

Just a reminder that in Semester 2, I will be transitioning to a 4-day workweek by taking one day of Long Service Leave each week. My work schedule will alternate between Monday-Thursday one week and Tuesday-Friday the next. This arrangement will provide me with the opportunity to spend more quality time with my family.

During my absence, our Deputy Principal, Angela Flint, will assume the role of Acting Principal. Angela has my complete support in this role, and I trust that you will also extend your full cooperation to her during these periods.
