Welcome to another busy and vibrant term at Monivae College Library.
I would like to begin with a picture of two of our wonderful Year 7 Students. Ivy and Eva are very enthusiastic readers and library regulars. This picture was taken when the two came into the Library, discovered some new books that made them oh so happy, I simply needed to capture the moment.
Thankyou girls for bringing such a beautiful joy and happiness to the Library.
Late in Term 2 a wonderful group of Year 10 volunteers took part in the preparation and serving of another Uniting Church lunch here in Hamilton. Under the guidance of Mr Leo McMahon, a delicious lunch was served whilst the students were able to see first hand the real needs of folk in our own Community. Well done everyone. By all accounts your skills and enthusiasm on the day were exemplary.
Another group of Year 8 and 9 boys attended the Uniting Church lunch for their “Christmas in July” celebration last week. Led by two of our wonderful Learning support staff, Mrs Megan Layley and Ms Kym Hunter, it was a great experience.
Here is a piece written all about their experience of the day.
Christmas is a special time for most - time for coming together, helping others, sharing food and gifts. This was no exception as we continued our valued partnership with Hamilton’s Uniting Church to celebrate ‘Christmas in July.
Last Tuesday 23 July, an all-male team of junior Monivae students took the opportunity to work alongside Church volunteers, to serve home-cooked, traditional Christmas lunches to people in our community, who are in need of some extra help.
It was a wonderful and insightful experience for the boys and staff, who plated and served meals and drinks. They shared conversation and laughter with guests and volunteers, assisted with the clean-up and packaged meals for those unable to attend.
The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and we encourage, staff, students and our extended Monivae family to be involved - We all have something to offer our community, to support those in our backyard who are in greater need than ourselves.
Here are some thoughts from our students.
Xander McIntosh (Yr8) “I would do this again because it is nice to give back to the community”.
Jedd Oxley (Yr8) “I would recommend to friend’s because it’s a very good opportunity for helping and learning”.
Ty Harrison (Yr9) “It was an honour to help the less fortunate people in the community”.
Hamish Button (Yr9) “It was good to see how much the less fortunate people in our community appreciate what we are doing”.
Max Graham (Yr9) “Volunteer in the community and maybe donate a little bit of money or food.”.
We here in the Library are currently running our House Chess competition. Our two Chess Captains, Dale Todd and Liam Handrek, and our inimitable Mrs Herrmann, are assuring that all runs fairly, smoothly and efficiently.
The Competition will continue to run in the coming fortnight and we shall keep you up to day with all of our competitors and those who are victorious.
