GD YR 7/8 Football - Boys
Congratulations to the Monivae Year 7/8 footy team for an outstanding performance in the GD competition today!
Despite the tough, windy conditions, our boys showed steely determination and a solid skill set, finishing up undefeated for the tournament after playing five games across the day. We had good wins against Hamilton & Alexandra College, Baimbridge, Portland Secondary, Bayview, and a combined Good Shepherd/Heywood team.
A big thanks to Gilly who drove the bus and also umpired for the day.
Well done, team!

GD YR 7-9 Football - Girls
On Monday 29th of July, 22 our Junior girls travelled to Casterton to take on the South West’s best.
Our first game was against Hamilton and Alexandra College. The standard of football in this competition has improved immensely over the past few years and this game was a beauty. Monivae ended up winning 3. 7. 26 to no score, but the girls needed to work really had to achieve this result.
Ruby Cleaver kicked two goals and Georgie Harris one. Best players in this game were Ruby cleaver, Georgie Harris, Maddox Ryan and Ella Peters.
Second game saw us take on Bayview College. Bayview had won their first game easily and looked fast. Our girls now had a taste of success and stepped up a gear. We had 22 players rotating and they all played their part in an even well spread effort. This evenness across the team was to be a strength of ours all day. Goal kickers were Ruby again with three Marli Blohm kicked one, and five points, and Georgie kicked another. The final scores were 5. 5. 35 to one behind. Better players were Tatum bell, Lily Raymond, Molly Barry, and Barli Blohm.
Game three was against Portland Secondary College. Our girls again played very well with all 22 contributing when it was their turn. Better players were Maddox Boughton, Shannon Mhasho, Molly Sevior, and Grace Iredell. Goal kickers were Will Boughton two, Maddox two Ruby and Molly one each. Scores were 6.3. 39 to no score.
Next up was the local derby against Baimbridge College. The girls again showed learning and application, and again came out on top 4.4 28 to no score. Georgie again scored two goals with Marli and Willow getting one each. Best players were neve Beardsell, Lou Impey, Georgia Taylor (great accidental smother), Isabel Hurley and Imogen Fitzgerald.
As it worked out, the two undefeated teams played off in the last round. Monivae and Good Shepherd/Heywood went into the game having taken all before them in the preliminaries. Good Shepherd/Heywood had some stars playing so we knew it would be a tough game and the girls focused. The girls played very well to a game plan and we knew we had to rely on our evenness and all had to do their part. The girls were terrific. Our leaders stood up with Ruby, Shannon, Maddox and Marli all playing big rolls in this winning team. Georgie again stared up forward with all of our three goals going to her, and Lexi Thomas played a very smart game on the wing defending and attacking very well. Other good players in this game were Taylor Jackson, Ally Holmes, Eliza Moore and Tilly Brewin
I would like to thank my helpers on the day, Archie Page, Riley Munro, Hugh Fitzgerald, Ella Willmot and Eloise Millard.
Best players as chosen by my helpers were, Georgie Harris, Ruby Cleaver, Shannon Mhasho, Tatum Bell, Maddox Ryan and Marli Blohm in a very even team performance.

GD Yr 9/10 Basketball
After a vigorous selection and training program the Yr 9/10 Boys and Girls basketball teams went into the competition two very competent teams with a lot of depth.
The boys played 5 games and at no point were looking like they were going to drop any games. Finishing with 5 wins for the day. Thanks to Archie Hintum for coaching the boys. They will now head to Ballarat to compete at the Greater Western Region Basketball Competition in mid-August.
The girls although only had 3 games, they were a little nervous going up against a strong Portland Secondary College. Having won their first 2 games against Baimbridge, and Good Shepherd, the girls went into the final game confident with a little trepidation. Ruby Cleaver stepped up and shut down their main player which seemed to change their game plan, which gave way for the team to focus on getting the ball in the ring. Coming home victorious and will join the boys at the GWR Competition.
Thanks to old Collegian Tahlia Ross for coming back to coach the girls.
Netball Victoria School Netball Championships
With the sun shining giving perfect conditions at Pedrina Park yesterday as 4 teams headed down to compete at the Netball Victoria School Championships.
Yr 9/10 team started the day strongly and never looked back as they finished the day undefeated giving them a spot in the NV State Final in late August.
The talented Yr 11/12 team showed they too were a well-oiled team winning all bar two games. The girls worked hard all day and should be very proud of how they played
With 2 Yr 7/8 teams it was evident that there is a huge amount of talent in the younger year levels. Team Read winning 4 games and a draw, whilst Team Wilken was 1point off winning their group. When they went down to Ballarat Clarendon College. The girls fought hard all day winning all games bar one.
A huge thank you to Mel Keath and staff for their tireless work of selections and training leading up to the day. To the staff and parents for coaching and umpiring making it a very successful day, thank you all.
Team Selections
As we continue to make selections for the team sports, I would like to explain how these selections are made as follows:
The list is sent to the Year Level Coordinators and Director of Students to check that the students meet the above criteria, they may be removed from the team at this stage, regardless of training and their ability
