Wellbeing Days: Man Cave and Flourish Journey

Our Year 9 & 10 students thoroughly enjoyed their recent sessions with the Man Cave and the Flourish Journey Wellbeing programs. A big focus of the sessions was around empowering and lifting each other up through kindness and understanding of each others’ strengths. In the Flourish Journey, students discovered different values and discussed people that they admired and had time to think about who they wanted to be as young people. They were powerful Wellbeing days, and we look forward to developing these programs into the future.

Michelle Mitchell- The Real Weight of Parenting

In the holidays I read this interesting article about parenting and the exhausting weight that comes from parenting. It also discusses the enjoyment, satisfaction and joyous moments that come from parenting. Some points and interesting explanations from the article I noted were:

  • Navigating bumpy moments in life with young people
  • Trying not to forecast the future
  • Your now, impacts their next
  • Sharing the weight of big feelings and emotions
  • Your core values and how these impact on caring/parting young people

It is a 5-10 minute read and I encourage parents and carers to grab a cuppa and have a read, lots of food for thought! Link below for the full article:

Youth Mental Health First Aid: refresher courses and community courses

Please keep an eye out on the Southern Grampians Live4Life page and upcoming newsletters for the next Youth Mental Health First Aid courses. These courses are very popular and equip adults who care for or support young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. The nationally recognised qualification lasts for 3 years and is supplementary and supportive of the Teen Course that our Year 8 and Year 10 students all complete in Term 4.
