Year 1

Olympic torch comes to Year 1!

We were so fortunate to have Mr Pap bring in a family friend's Olympic Torch from the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Year 1 students heard a little more about the story of the Olympic torch and its significance in the opening ceremonies. The Year 1s agreed that everyone wouldn’t believe us if we just went home and told them, so here are some photos to show this very memorable experience.  So grateful for the opportunities we can provide for our students. Super dooper lucky for this experience!!

Magic Show in Year 1

Magic has been swirling around in Year 1 with our Magic Academy Incursion. The Year 1 students were mesmerised and entertained by Tim Mason from The Magic Academy. They were in absolute hysterics as they watched banana’s appear one after another from a hat, a whiteboard come alive, and a magic wand get to the size of a small car! It was a joy from beginning to end! The children all went home with their own link for home, to learn some magic tricks using things from around their house.

Mirror Mirror!

Fairytale Land is in a frenzy! The Magic Mirror is about to decide who is the Fairest of Them All, and everyone is acting strangely! The Big Bad Wolf is now a Big GOOD Wolf! Snow White is seeing red! Features the stories ‘The Ugly Duckling’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.

We are looking forward to the "Mirror Mirror!" incursion on Friday, 16 August, presented by Carp Productions. This incursion is part of our Fairy Tales, Fables and Folktales studies this term, providing Year 1s with a unique take on traditional fairytale performance, including up-to-date music and references to popular culture. “Mirror Mirror!” brings many much-loved characters to life and inspires students to love literature! It also explores the differences and similarities between fairytales, participation in performance, characterisation and role-playing, and the transition from books to performance.

Incursion details have been published on Compass. Consent and payment were due by  Sunday 11 August and are now overdue; please contact the School Office.
