ALTERNATE PROGRAMS NEWSLETTER 24 JULY 2024

Welcome back! We hope you had a restful break. As we begin Term 3, we are ready to continue our work with you and your children. Our staff are always here to support you, so please reach out to the relevant staff members if you have any questions or need assistance.

An important upcoming date it Parent-Teacher Interviews, which will be held on Tuesday, July 30. There will be no classes on this day to allow for these discussions. Please speak to your child's teachers to book an appointment. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress and any concerns you might have.

As we move through Term 3, we are also beginning to plan for 2025. Now is a good time to start discussing with your children their goals for the rest of the year and what they would like their school experience to look like next year. Your input and their goals are important in shaping our plans.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a productive term ahead!

Careers Expo

On Tuesday 25th June students from the Alternative Programs attended the Careers Expo held at Longerenong College. Students enjoyed exploring career opportunities, Vocational Education and Training choices for next year, discussions with employment agencies and ideas for further education. One highlight was meeting Gary the horse who was there to promote Equine Studies. Pictured are students experiencing a Powercor cherry picker ride and course ideas from Federation University.

Alternate Programs

Congratulations to the six students who successfully completed BSBTEC201 Use business software applications. This is the first of two units to be completed this year, so according to my maths they are now halfway to achieving a VET credit towards their VM or VPC. Keep up the good work…Dave.

McKenzie Creek - Welcome to Term 3!

Whilst it has been a somewhat chilly start to the term we have still been able to see plenty of the Creekers get to school this week. It can certainly be a challenge to break some of those holiday habits, but we encourage families to support their students to have an early night to bed and use their technology sparingly before bedtime.

During the first week of term we welcomed Jamie to the McKenzie Creek program, he has settled in well and our students have been very welcoming and supportive of his transition.

Term 3 Daily Routine

With the recent change of semester, we have been required to make some slight changes to the electives and activities. We will start our week off with a ‘Creek Walk’ and encourage students to wear shoes that are appropriate for bush walking. Also, we have introduced ICT skills on a Friday to assist our students in developing some 21st century skills by using the class set of laptops.
