Crazy Ideas College - Social Innovators

On June 3rd and 4th, about 40 students from Murtoa College and Horsham College came together for a two-day Social Innovators program facilitated by Crazy Ideas College (CIC) and proudly enabled by Ballarat Tech School (BTS).

On Day 1, students selected a passion topic related to various environmental and societal issues and formed teams with like-minded peers around these. Together, they brainstormed and developed crazy good ideas to address their selected issues. Students finished the day building a prototype of their favourite big idea, which was carried forward through the rest of the program.

Day 2 was a testament to the students' unwavering dedication and passion. As they prepared to pitch their issues, big ideas, and experiments to a panel of 5 community partners, the air was filled with excitement. The students' ideas ranged from Barry’s House, a suite of tiny houses that can be transported through communities, offering a safe place for unhoused individuals to stay while looking for jobs, to a Virtual Career Simulator headset that allows young people to experience career pathways via virtual reality. The partners were deeply moved by their presentations and shared their admiration for each idea and their willingness to assist in bringing them to life.

The Horsham Social Innovators Program was a testament to the power of collaboration and the strength of the local community and the students. Congratulations to all the students involved in the program!
