Grade 2 Heide Excursion

HEIDE Museum of Modern Art

To celebrate our learning connected to our unit of inquiry, How We Express Ourselves, the Grade 2 students went to the HEIDE Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)

We had a brilliant day of learning.

Here are some reflections –

Today we went to Heide. I learnt that sculptures can be made from an object that is real and turned into a jumbled sculpture. The bit I enjoyed the most was when you created your own sculpture out of materials.

My favourite thing about HEIDE is all the beautiful green plants and statues. My least favourite thing about Heide is all the bugs that can bite!

I absolutely loved the workshop because I love doing abstract art because it doesn’t have to be perfect! My favourite thing about the tour was that if you look very closely, you’ll find that there’s a lot of birds plus you get lots of bird noises.

At the Heide Museum I enjoyed making our own sculptures in the workshop. I really loved the sculpture called The Saturn Rings. There were three trees that were natural in the gardens. All the others were planted! We went on a walk

around the gardens and learnt that the owners were John and Sunday Reid. They offered for people to live with them if they promised to work out in the garden every day. The Heide was really fun!

I enjoyed the tour of the outside of Heide Museum. My favourite sculpture was “The Rings of Saturn”. It was a collection of metal in the shape of rings. Another sculpture that I liked was the Running Man. It was made of bronze and steel.

Today we went to Heide. I enjoyed doing a marquette and looking at the sculptures. Some are called The Rings of Saturn, Stages, The Gathering Tree and Southern Landscape.

On Thursday 5th December the whole of the grade 2’s went to the Heide Museum. WE looked at some amazing sculptures, like the Rings of Saturn and The Three Stages. We saw where the Aboriginal meeting place was. My reflection of the day was going on a walk to see lots of different sculptures. Did you know that Heide used to be a dairy farm? And that anything can be art!

We took a bus to Heide Museum. In Heide there were these workers called Heather, Johnathan and Ros. Heather showed us a few sculptures. Some of the sculptures were showed us a few sculptures. Some of the sculptures were smooth, some them were rough. A few of them were made of bronze and others of corrugated iron and stainless steel.

On Thursday we went to Heide Museum. First a lady named Heather showed us some sculptures around Heide, some were colourful and some were not.
