Library News
Borrowing has finished for the year.
Year 6 Storytime!
As a fun end of year Library lesson, Year 6 had to search through their borrowing history to find a book they borrowed in Kindergarten! The Year 6 students then teamed up with their Kinder buddies one last to read them the book. Year 6 had a very funny time looking at what they used to read while Kindergarten enjoyed catching up with their Year 6 buddy.
Premier's Reading Challenge
It was wonderful to a number of students participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge.
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
This year we had the pleasure of awarding 4 students with a GOLD award; Maggie Jennings, Blake Young, Annie Shawyer and Chloe Shawyer. To receive a GOLD award, participants must have completed the Challenge 4 times. It was also very exciting to present a PLATINUM award to Joey Sullivan! A PLATINUM award is much harder to achieve as you must have participated in the Challenge for 7 years! Congratulations to these students as well as all our other students who completed the Challenge this year.
SORA Summer suggestions!
This week's SORA suggestions are ebooks and audiobooks that students (and adults) might like to read over the holidays to prevent the 'Summer Slide'. SORA has some incredible books that you can borrow!
89% of studies comparing academic performance during the Summer versus the regular school year “predominantly revealed a dip during the summer”. The findings argued that literacy results could be maintained throughout the extended holiday break by practicing “procedural literacy skills” such as independent reading, journaling, or even following written instructions on board or video games. I love that the first thing on this list is SOMETHING TO READ!!
