Learning Community 2

23A - Mr. Rennie

23B - Ms. McAsey

What an exciting start to the year!

Being new to the school this year, both Mr. Rennie and Ms. McAsey have been welcomed warmly by students and families and are excited to intergrade into the new school community. So far, the cohort of students has been a delight to get to know and have been demonstrating the school values, Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, that they have learnt in previous years, giving Mr. Rennie and Ms. McAsey time to settle in.

The grade 2/3 will be exploring Narrative writing this term and we have already begun talking about how to develop an idea into an engaging story for audiences. We will be sharing some of the writing prompts with families through compass and invite parents to discuss the features of the prompts at home, to support vocabulary and spark curiosity regarding the range of possibilities to write about.

We have engaged in some maths games to help us work together collaboratively in our learning. This has developed problem-solving skills and strengthened understanding of key mathematical concepts and reactivated some prior knowledge that may be out of practice from the school holiday break. These activities encourage teamwork, communication, and critical thinking while making learning fun and engaging.

Levelled readers are being sent home to support students develop fluency applying the skills and strategies acquired in learning.  It would be beneficial to the literacy of students if reading at home was encouraged each night. We welcome your input and invite you to open communications in their diaries if you are reading with them.

Over the last few weeks, we focused on getting to know and understand each other as individuals, students, and teachers. It was wonderful to hear our students identify what they want to improve and how they plan to achieve it. We set goals together and are excited to work towards them!

About Mr. Rennie

I have come back to primary school and am super excited to be at Bunyip Primary! I have been working with children my entire adult life and have been a teacher since 2010. I most recently was the Disability Inclusion Leader at Traralgon College supporting a large cohort of students and ensuring that their diverse needs were addressed and supported by educators across the school.

Returning to primary education has been a change driven by a few reasons, one is that I enjoy greatly supporting the whole child and not segmenting them into subject areas. As a primary classroom teacher, I look forward to inspiring your child and supporting them to surprise themselves with what they can achieve. I also have a young family, and this change has enabled me to be more present at home for my toddler and new baby. I enjoy singing, drama, and swimming and am passionate about young people and supporting them to reach to achieve their most lofty aspirations. I look forward to a wonderful year with you and your children. My door is always open.

About Ms. McAsey

Hello, my name is Sharlene McAsey, and I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year! I have worked in schools for many years as both an Education Support staff member and a teacher. Outside of school, I have a busy home life with my seven children, aged 10 to 20, as well as my much-loved pets—two dogs, Keelee and Skylar and four cats, Viktor, Echo, Charli and Tango.
