Science Technology Engineering Math

This year in STEM we did some exciting things!

Students in grades 5 & 6 utilised their coding and engineering skills to explore and demonstrate the true size and scale of the solar system. They then researched about earthquakes and used our custom made earthquake machine to help them build and test an earthquake proof building.

In the second half of the year they completed an experiment to discover what a plant needs to survive and how they grow, and finished the year learning about electrical generation, and basic electrical circuits.

Our 3 & 4 students used their learning on the rotation of the earth and how the sun moves across our sky to help them create a sundial. They then learned about forces and motion through an exciting exploration of rocketry, designing and building their own working rockets!

In the second half of the year they learnt about heat and heat transfer and life-cycles, and food webs of an Australian animal of their choice.

Our Prep to 2 students learned prototyping skills, science exploration skills. They explored how plants grow and the life-cycle of a pea plant by cultivating and planting their own plants and documented their growth. They learnt about the changes to the environment and seasons and how sound is vibrations moving in waves. They created a series of musical instruments demonstrating their growing understandings.

Additionally, some of our year 6 students participated in our first entry to the Quantum Print-a-car challenge and performed wonderfully!
