Library News

Mrs Heather Vassila

Thank you to all the library helpers this year

Thank you to Karina F and Emma G for the wonderful job they have done with the organising of Book club this year.  Each issue they are responsible for processing all the orders from families and then sorting and delivering all the books to the classrooms for children. Through families purchasing books from Book club our library has been able to add many new books to our collection. Karina and Emma volunteer their time to do this, and it is very much appreciated.

Thank you to Rachel C, an ex-Roselea parent, and her daughter Zoe, an ex-Roselea student who come and help shelve books.  Rachel comes each week, and Zoe comes when she is back in Sydney on university holidays.  Their help is very much appreciated especially around stocktake time. They are like magic fairies helping to tidy the shelves and keep the library clean and ordered.

Thank you also to Jessica P, Victoria V, and Jacqui S who have come many Tuesday afternoons this year to help cover books.  Their assistance has been appreciated.

I would also like to say a very big thank you to the amazing library leaders and helpers I have had this year. I am so fortunate to have the assistance of the library leaders - Chloe E, Amy G, Samika K, Zhi Yoong T, Claire W, Aiden D and Harry W. I also have had an amazing team of year 6 helpers who come every day, including - Sally P, Charlotte V, Zaha A, and Orchid A. Other helpers include Annabelle C, Idella H, Ava L, and other year 6 students.  All our students are very willing workers and help with all sorts of jobs. I very much appreciate all the time these students give to the library.

Returning

We have now finished borrowing for 2024.

Please ensure that all books borrowed by your child/children have been returned to the library. Unfortunately, we still have some children with very outstanding books. If you are unable to find any books, please continue to look for them over the summer break. Often books turn up unexpectedly. If that is the case, please bring them back at the beginning of the new school year. If your child/children are moving to a new school and a book/s is located, please take it to the new school library and they will organise to have the book/s sent back to Roselea.

Over the summer holiday is also a great time to wash library bags and check that names can be clearly read. Placing library bags back into school bags immediately also ensures that they are ready for the first borrowing at the beginning of the new school year.

Summer Reading

While the borrowing of our physical books is finished for the year there are still opportunities for our students to read from our library collection.

eBooks

We have a subscription to ebooks through Wheelers eplatform. Children can borrow an ebook just as easily as they borrow physical library books.  There are a large variety of titles with fiction and non-fiction books available. The children easily access the books through their det portal from the Orbit Home Page or from the eplatform website. With nearly 2000 books available there is sure to be something for every reader. While nothing will ever replace the wonderful pleasure of holding a great or favourite book in our hands, it is still a great alternative.

There are two ways that families can access ebooks from home:

  1. Through the eplatform link  Roselea Public School - Roselea Public School (eplatform.co)
  • Sign in using your child’s DET username and password

Click on library to access over 2000 ebooks that can be borrowed and read on any device.  We also have access to decodable and levelled readers.  These include parent notes, worksheets and comprehension questions and a revision page at the end of each book.

There is also an eplatform app that can be downloaded to devices.

Search for and download the app (ePlatform) from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Windows 10. Select Roselea PS and log in using your child’s DET username and password.

Ebooks can also be accessed through Orbit

  • Log into the student portal Sign In (det.nsw.edu.au)
    • Your child’s DET username and password
    • Go into Oliver library
  • Click on Orbit

Click on ‘search’ to lookup a Title or ‘ebooks’ to scroll through the library

To return an e-book

  • After 2 weeks your book will automatically be returned
  • If you would like to return if before, go into ‘My library’ and click return

Children can also log in to World Book Online (Username: roselea, Password: school) and read the many ebooks available.

Best wishes for the summer break and we look forward to a fantastic 2024 in our school library.

Happy Reading

Mrs Vassila - Teacher Librarian
