School Highlights

Year 2 incursion - The past in your class

Olivia Sun and Mila Cooper, Year 2, and Miss McCowan, Year 2 Classroom Teacher

On Friday 6 June, Mrs Sargood from Rippon Lea Estate visited Year 2.

She came and spoke to us about what school-life was like 150 years ago! We even got to try some old-fashioned schoolwork using ink pots and special pens. Mrs Sargood also explained the school rules from the olden days.

We learned that students weren’t allowed to bring food into the classroom — unless it was a gift for the teacher. At lunchtime, they had to walk home to eat and then return to school. We also found out that people didn’t smile in photos back then!

If students misbehaved, they were often hit with the cane. Boys were punished more harshly than girls. If students made a mistake, they were made to wear a 'Dunce' hat. We were all very surprised when Mrs Sargood told us she had 12 children, which was actually normal at the time — and that she lived in a humongous mansion!

We all had a great time with Mrs Sargood and learnt a lot!

Year 6 Kidpreneur Expo showcases young entrepreneurs

Paul Pellegrino, Year 6 Classroom Teacher

This week, our Year 6s proudly presented their business proposals at the 2025 Kidpreneur Expo, marking the culmination of their HASS unit on goods and services.

Working in pairs, students identified market needs and developed original business concepts, complete with names, logos and mission statements. They created product ranges, designed promotional materials and crafted social media posts to engage their target audiences.

Some of their innovative business ideas included: Blissful Baskets (customisable gift baskets), Next Hoops (AI Basketball training/tutorials), Acai Ave (Acai Bowls), Crunch Bomb Cupcakes (personalised cupcakes) and Angelic Glide (shoe range).

The Expo was a great success, with parents and students from other year levels visiting to view the presentations. Each group confidently showcased their work, demonstrating creativity, collaboration and strong communication skills.

We’re incredibly proud of our budding entrepreneurs and the effort they put into bringing their business ideas to life!

Year 7 Science Week Activity

Anthony Johnston, Science and Systems Engineering Teacher

As a hands-on introduction to Science Week, our Year 7s competed to build the longest Cobra Weave using tongue depressors—all within just 15 minutes!

This engaging challenge encouraged teamwork and provided a practical exploration of elastic potential energy, directly linking to their current unit on Forces.

Students are now applying their learning by designing and constructing their own Toy Time projects—interactive models that demonstrate key force concepts in preparation for the exciting end-of-term showcase.

Year 8 Character and Connection Day

Our Year 8s enjoyed their recent Character and Connection Day — a dedicated time for growth, empathy and building meaningful connections.

Throughout the day, they participated in a variety of enriching activities. The team from The Reach Foundation led workshops that challenged perspectives and encouraged honest conversations, helping students forge deeper bonds.

‘I liked how the Reach Workshop let us be honest and talk about how we really feel. It was nice to hear that other people go through similar things — we all have similar fears.’ - Lily-Rose, Year 8

One standout activity was Blind Soccer. In this unique challenge, students wore blindfolds and had to rely entirely on communication, trust and teamwork to navigate the game.

This experience helped build trust and strengthen peer relationships, enhance communication skills in unfamiliar situations and foster a deeper understanding of inclusivity and resilience.

By prioritising reflection, connection and personal growth, we help young people build the confidence and character they need to thrive — now and into the future.

Year 11 Mentor Matching Program

As we all know, education doesn’t end at the classroom door. Now in its fourth year, our Mentor Matching Program connects Year 11 students with recent alumni working across diverse fields including medicine, engineering, law, psychology, commerce and the arts.

In 2025, we welcomed a record number of mentors. Through a series of one-on-one sessions, students gain valuable real-world insights, career clarity and the confidence to take their next steps — whether into university, training or work. For parents, it offers reassurance that their children are guided not only by expert teachers but also by those who have walked the Kilvington path before them.

A huge thanks to our 2025 mentors for generously giving their time and wisdom.
