INTERGENERATIONAL CONVERSATIONS IN GERMAN

Authentic conversation with members of the German-speaking community for Friday afternoon’s double lesson – not a bad way to wind down the end of the week! Continuing a program we have been doing in Year 11 German since 2013 (on the basis of an initiative of Monash University), our students sat down in groups last Friday at the start of period 5 to engage in conversation with the German-speaking visitors.

These sessions have a guiding structure, yet they flow freely, and our students learn to talk more and more spontaneously and extend their German vocabulary. Our students also learn more from the life experience of our visitors.

Late in the session all participants enjoy the taste of the German tradition of Kaffee und Kuchen (which the students take turns to contribute to). More of these Intergenerational Conversations will take place at intervals during the rest of the year. We are very grateful to our guests for volunteering their time and knowledge for our students.

YEARS 10/11 FRENCH TRIP TO FRANCE (DECEMBER 2025) - AN UPDATE

The saga of trying to organise trips post-Covid for our French students continues. I have had to pivot because our French sister school is now unable to restart the exchange arrangement before 2026. Instead, I have organised a 2-week trip to France which is open to our Years 10 and 11 French students. The trip starts in Paris for four days and then moves to Montpellier for language lessons and homestays, allowing the students to really immerse themselves in the French language.

There will be an information evening at 6pm on Thursday 27 March in the Theatre at the McKinnon Rd campus. If you are interested and have not received my emails, and you have a child who is studying Years 10 or 11 French this year, please complete this form Year 10/11 French trip 2025 - form 2.
