News | Class 8
The Class 8 students of 2024 at The Alice Springs Steiner School dedicated most of the year to working at home on their Major Projects, a core element of Steiner education. Each student chose a topic of personal interest, worked on it over three terms, and presented their findings in Term 4. This approach nurtures a range of skills, encouraging exploration of new areas or deepening existing passions. Students were guided by mentors, experts in their fields, to support independent learning and foster connections with the broader community.
The projects spanned diverse subjects, such as hydroponics, magic shows, reptile studies, traditional wood-burning, and Tongan culture. Throughout the process, students-maintained journals to document their progress and challenges. The culmination involved a reflective presentation where they shared their personal growth, achievements, and the obstacles they overcame, including time management and motivation.
These projects fostered resilience, self-reflection, and an appreciation for dedication, providing real-world insights that go beyond academics. By engaging in self-directed work and connecting with mentors, students developed essential skills for the future, such as project management and communication. The projects not only conclude the early years of education but also serve as a bridge to the next phase of their lives, offering a glimpse into adulthood and the responsibilities it entails.
Congratulations to the Class 8 students for their hard work, creativity, and commitment to their projects.
