Bike Mechanics Group
As part of the Learner Diversity program at Sacred Heart, a select number of students in Grade 3/4 have been participating in a Bike Mechanics program once a fortnight.
The groups were name “The Fixables” and “Fix It Up” (named by the group members).
In these groups, students learnt a variety of practical, hands on, problem solving and collaboration skills. They were exposed to a number of basic tools and techniques and ways to use them.
The group started with a donated bike in need of repair. Throughout the course of the semester, both groups-
fixed and repaired flat tyres.
completely disassembled the bike.
removed old stickers and surface rust.
prepared parts for paint by giving them a light sand.
painted parts using basic spray-painting techniques.
reassembled the bike using grease and replaced parts if needed .
adjusted and fixed brakes, chains, and handlebars.
explored the importance of correct tyre pressure.
designed stickers.
The students have worked well together all semester and can be congratulated on their fantastic achievements.
The completed bikes are on display in the front foyer of the school.
Please see below for some thoughts from group members and some photos.

Thank you
Thank you everyone in the Sacred Heart community for the support of the sport and physical education program for your child this year.
Next year I am aiming at continuing to upgrade equipment in the sports shed, source out extra incursions and sports, and provide as many opportunities as I can for students to enjoy and excel in their sport and physical education. I hope everyone has a great Christmas and a happy New Year. See you in 2025!
