Careers Newsletter

With the final week of Term 3 here, we will see Year 10 presented with a talk on Careers within the NSW Police Force, the conclusion of the Year 11 assessment block, and Year 12 graduate before making final preparations to sit the HSC.

It is especially important for Year 11 to start thinking about the year ahead. From a Careers perspective, by this time next year, Year 11 should have registered with UAC, applied for scholarships, early entry schemes, Schools Recommendation Scheme, the Educational Access Scheme, have their portfolios ready to submit, put in their five UAC preferences, get their USI for tertiary study, built up their resume, and possibly a WWCC if they want to start working with children post school. They will have sat for UCAT, LAT or even the SAT if they’re thinking of studying in the United States. They may have had interviews for apprenticeships, traineeships, cadetships, and co-op scholarships alongside interviews for weekend work. They should have attended lunchtime presentations, a careers expo, and open days. There is a lot to do in the next twelve months while preparing for the HSC.

Has your son been proactive in getting organised? Have you begun your discussions about the future and planned ahead? If not, I would suggest it is prudent to do so. Good luck and God bless our Year 12 with their upcoming HSC and early entry outcomes, and I hope Year 11 have made the most of the year so their results boost their own early entry options in 2024.
