Mr. Carlyle's Message
Hello families and welcome to this week’s newsletter.
I wanted to preview some of the goings-on across term 4 in preparation for what is a busy term. Our continued focus across the year has been on calm and orderly classrooms busy with learning. Until our last day of term, this will be the expected norm every day at school. However, across the term, there are many exciting things that will take place that it’s important to tune into.
Senior School
The senior school will be a hive of activity in Term 4. Our year 6 students start to cast their minds to secondary school. They’ll be busy with transition days, writing graduation speeches, and rounding off their primary years with a busy academic schedule. Whilst it’s an exciting time for them to look forward it’s also a special time for them to ‘soak up’ the last term of their primary school days.
For our year 5’s they’ll have the opportunity to begin work designing their year 6 top for 2024 and apply for leadership positions available to them as School, House, and Wellbeing Leaders.
Senior Students will top off their term with the graduation event.
Middle School
In the Middle school, the most anticipated event is sure to be camp in week 5 of term at Angelsea. This is a fantastic event to round off the end of the year, and a chance for our students to experience a great coastal camp.
Junior School
In the Junior School and in Foundation Teachers are looking forward to the swimming lesson program kicking off every Wednesday between weeks 2 and 6. Our P-2 late stay is in the works as well for later in the term. In the meantime, students will continue with engaging content knowledge units as they build on their skills ready to step up into 2024.
Transition
Across the school, we’ll conduct a transition program for 2024. This will involve a ‘step up’ day for all students, as well as a series of transition sessions for our incoming Foundation students. Families of foundation students will be emailed these dates separately to the newsletter.
New Uniform 2024
As we communicated last term there will be a change in school uniform next year. New uniform options are not yet ready, and we will notify families when they begin to be available. However, the current school uniform will remain a viable option for all students from Prep to Grade 6 next year, as we gradually convert to the new uniform over the next two years.
All students in 2024 will be provided with one new school polo. This is an initiative of the parents and friends group and a thoughtful and timely contribution given the scope of this change in a time where costs have risen in all areas of our day-to-day lives.
PFG - Help Needed
The parents and friends group is a vital component of our school's ability to fund and support student programs and essential items. As I mentioned above, it is through the tireless work of our volunteers that every child will receive a new uniform item next year.
The PFG also runs the canteen, the proceeds of which have funded the following in 2023.
• Performances at school from an external provider
• All transport costs to local and district sports events
• Enabled us to cap the steep rise in camp and excursion operating costs
We need more help! As it stands we currently do not have enough helpers for the canteen to run lunch orders this term, which means in the long term our ability to cover the costs above will be impacted. If you have the ability to lend some of your time to support the PFG (who are a lovely, friendly bunch of legends) please reach out to the school.
Healthy Lunch Box Choices and Nude Food
Please help reduce waste in our school by packing 'Nude Food' (food without excess packaging) and whole foods or unprocessed foods in your child's lunch box. Click here for further resources and 'Healthy Lunch Box' suggestions or to download the Pick and Mix poster for the fridge!
