Gardening Is For All and the Wonderful World of Plants
On Thursday the 24th August Mr. Brian O’Halloran (Mrs. O’Halloran’s father) volunteered his time to speak with all Year 4 students about gardening and plants. This session allowed us to explore what gardening is, its importance to our mental and physical health and wellbeing and learn about the different types of gardens we can see in our community and world. Brian also shared his knowledge about the ‘Wonderful World of Plants’ as a proud and passionate gardener and past Royal Botanical Garden employee and gardener. We were able to share our new learnings from our current inquiry into ‘Where Do We Belong?’ and also make links to our Writer’s Festival description of our plants.
Yarra Valley Water Watchers Program
On Monday the 4th September Year 4 participated in the FREE Yarra Valley Water - Water Watcher’s Program. The one hour session linked directly to the Victorian Curriculum, as the Water Watchers incursion aims to teach primary school students about where water comes from, how people consume it, and why we all have a role to play in saving it. It’s Yarra Valley Water’s hope that students leave the session with an increased knowledge and understanding around water use, and a desire to join the Water Watchers in their mission to save the Earth’s supply. Every student who attended the incursion received their very own Water Watcher to take home.
