Year 2 - Melbourne Museum
Year 2 Melbourne Museum Excursion
On the 4th September, the Year 2 students attended the Melbourne Museum to investigate about their inquiry topic ‘What Does it Mean to Belong’ in a community.
Students had the opportunity to explore and learn about the Australian flora and fauna and the Aboriginal culture as they visited the Museum’s Indigenous Garden, the Milarri Garden trail, and the Bunjilaka First Peoples’ Gallery. They were exposed to a wide range of Aboriginal artefacts and artworks such as the Bunjil’ Nest, Possum Skin Cloak and an Australian map outlining the origins of Aboriginal languages. During the exhibit, students were given an activity booklet to complete a scavenger hunt prepared by the Melbourne Museum. Students developed new learnings and wonderings about the Aboriginal community as they navigated through the gallery and reflected on the history and culture among.
All students displayed the school values of respect, responsibility, resilience, honesty and learning during the excursion and represented Greenvale Primary School exceptionally well.
Thank you also to the wonderful parent helpers who assisted on our excursion.
