Stage 1

A message from Stage 1

Stage 1 teachers would like to recognise the hard work of our students over what has been a very busy term! It is always so rewarding to see both academic and personal growth, and we have certainly seen both this term. Ask your child to tell you all about the PAX vocabulary we have learnt this term and how they have used their PAX scouting skills to find examples of this in their daily lives.

We hope you have an enjoyable time if you are heading away for the holidays and we look forward to welcoming students back in Term 4.

English

We are learning:

  • to write an acrostic poem
  • about the features of an acrostic poem

We are successful when:

  • we begin our acrostic poem with a word written down the side of the page
  • our poem includes adjectives
  • each line of our poem has a word or phrase beginning with the letter of the original word

We hope you enjoy some of our amazing acrostic poems!

Mathematics

We are learning to use:

  • concrete materials to model a half of a collection and show the relationship between the half and whole
  • fraction language to describe chance events

We know we are successful when we can:

  • model doubling and halving groups and the relationship between them
  • recreate the whole when given half
  • state the chance of an event occurring by referring to it in fraction terms (1 out of 6)

Visual Arts

We have completed an artist study this term and recreated some famous artworks, such as Van Gogh's A Starry Night and Sunflowers. We have had lots of interesting discussions about Van Gogh's life and what inspired his pieces.

Athletics Carnival

K-2 will be holding our athletics carnival on Thursday 12 October, which is Week 1 of next term. We are asking for parent volunteers to assist with the running of the day. If you are able to help, please email Miss Campbell claudia.campbell10@det.nsw.edu.au

Thank you in advance, we are excited for a fun day of athletics!
