Congratulations!

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Whiteside on their marriage over the school holidays. The bride was beautiful, and the wedding was a wonderful day. It was so lovely to welcome some children and families who came along to see Miss Mitchell become Mrs Whiteside! Mrs Whiteside is looking forward to returning on the Monday of Week 4 of this term.

Safety Drills

At the end of the last term, the children participated in their first evacuation safety drill. Mrs Kidney talked with the group about what to expect during the drill, and then played a video of Mrs Steinberg talking about how we do safety drills at Bayside Christian College. The children listened to the different sirens that they may hear during safety drills.

The children have been practising walking whilst holding a walking rope, and did a wonderful job of walking safely to G block whilst holding the rope. On the way back to the ELC, the children were taken to see the chickens in the Primary yard. Well done to all of the children on such a great job for their first safety drill.

Space

The children were invited to explore outer space through dramatic play and dressing up as astronauts in the “space station”, through sensory play such as playdough, sand and water, and through puzzles and picture story books.

Working Together

The children’s relationships with one another have developed wonderfully over this year, and it has been a delight to watch their collaborative play outside. The children have worked together to get water from the tap for mixing with sand and making ‘cakes’. There have been hide and seek games, group block construction, and other cooperative games.

The children’s communication with one another has greatly developed as they engage in conversations with one another about their games and other topics of interest.

Clothing for Term 4

Please remember to bring your child's hat and sunscreen into the ELC for Term 4. Please also send your child with shoes that are appropriate for outdoor play in all Melbourne weather possibilities.

Library Visit

Mrs Woodbridge read the children some picture story books including “Bev and Kev”. Mrs Woodbridge encouraged the children to sit down and listen with a puppet of a giraffe moving around for the student to hold. The children enjoyed holding and patting the puppet quietly during the stories.

Goats

After the wonderful time in the library, right out the front of the library door: the goats were in a pen eating away a large overgrown garden bed. It was fun to spend 10 minutes standing and watching the goats resting, jumping on and off their tiny shelter and stand up on the fence to reach that extra tasty leaf.

Indigenous Flag

As we had learnt about the Indigenous Flag the week prior, it was wonderful to see a handmade creation in the garden bed representing the Indigenous Flag. The children decided to mark their find with a group photo. Conversations were had as to in their Primary years they could go and visit this special area and visit the library, see this creative and vitally important cultural display and remember their visit to see the goats.

Camping this Term

The children were busy engaging in social dramatic play of camping in the tent area, a sensory science experiment of floating and sinking, creating garden and tree collages, campfire collages, and many other drawing and writing activities. The children discussed what they needed to take when they were camping, and how to take care of the land when going on a camping visit.
