Kindergarten

A message from Early Stage 1

What a great time we had at our K-2 Athletics Carnival last Thursday. Thank you to all the family and friends that were able to join us for this event. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Kindergarten are going on their excursion to Thalgarrah on the dates listed below. Please make sure you have paid and filled out the permission note prior to the date of the excursion.

  • KE & KF Thalgarrah Excursion, Monday 23 October (Week 3)
  • KR & KG Thalgarrah Excursion, Monday 30 October (Week 4)

As the school is now using School Bytes to create and accept payments for school activities and excursions, please follow this link to set up your parent portal account, if you have not already done so, in readiness for our Thalgarrah excursion. If you have any difficulties, our administration staff in the front office are available to provide you with support.

English

We are learning to:

  • hear and say the sounds /oo/ and /ng/
  • recognise that two letters that make one sound are called digraphs
    • ‘oo’ makes the sound /oo/, as in ‘moon’
    • ‘ng’ makes the sound /ng/, as in ‘swing’
  • read tricky words: what, where, want
  • create written texts that include two related ideas
  • write a recount

Reading tip

Engage your child with questions about the book they are reading. Ask questions that challenge and ‘stretch’ your child. These may be questions about the names for things, but they can also be about why characters are doing things in the text or how they are feeling. Praise your child when they respond to questions or ask their own.

Mathematics

We are learning to:

  • recognise, describe and copy repeating patterns
  • recognise equal and unequal groups
  • share objects into equal groups by dealing

Integrated Learning

We are learning to:

  • identify living things
  • understand that living things have basic needs

Personal Development and Health (PDH)

We are learning to:

  • identify actions we can take to be sun safe
  • identify actions we can take to be safe in and around water

Visual Arts

We are learning about:

  • how to use texture and collage techniques effectively
  • warm and cool colours

Reminders:

  • please return home readers every Friday
  • students need to have a broad brimmed hat and water bottle every day at school
  • please phone the office or email your child’s class teacher if your child is absent from school
