Whole School Activities

AUSLAN

Term 3 has been a busy one and we are enjoying using our growing bank of signs to communicate with each other.  In August I attended the DEAF FESTIVAL in Sydney which was amazing and I was able to bring back some wonderful resources for the RRPS community to enjoy - 7 picture books for our library, gift bag goodies for the teachers, plus stamps and certificates to encourage our learners' progress.  In class we are busy learning how to sign the Australian National Anthem (which we look forward to showing you later next term).  Besides the new 50 words we have learnt in vocab, we have also developed our skill to include:

PHRASES:

* My favourite book/food/colour is……

*How are you? I am…

*Pleased to meet you

*My name is …

*What is your name/date of birth/address?

SKILLS:

*Numbers 11 - 1,000,000

*Happy Birthday song

*Colours

*National Anthem (nearly completed 1st verse)

Career's Expo

Last week Uralla Central School held their first Careers Quest. The day was a huge success, with students from Uralla Central School, Rocky River Public School, Bendemeer Public School and Kentucky Public School engaging with people from different careers in the community. Students had the opportunity to learn about different careers, some of which they may not have known existed. They also had hands on opportunities with the TAFE Mobile Training Units and the RFS Fire truck.

Bush Fest 2023

During Week 7 we were apart of BushFest which was hosted by NECOM. This was a fantastic choral workshop day for the local primary schools in which NECOM staff teach. The event was the brainchild of Nicole Mackson, NECOM’s Co-ordinator of School Curriculum and included students and staff from Ross Hill Public, Danthonia Community, Newling Public, St Joseph’s Uralla, St Patrick’s Walcha, Hernani Public, Chandler Public, Armidale City Public, Rocky River Public and Kelly’s Plains Public – 310 in total! Paul Jarman, one of Australia’s leading choral composers and conductors, and Warwick Dunham, renowned composer, conductor and jazz pianist, led the workshop. The day concluded with a wonderful concert of individual school items as well as two massed choir pieces.

Upper Division | Mathematics

Volume and Capacity

During the last few weeks we have been focusing on Area, Volume and Capacity. Students have had many 'hands on' opportunities to build on their knowledge and understanding of these substrands as well as consolidating existing knowledge.

Upper Division | Creative Arts

African Silhouette

With our play in the minds of many...Upper Division got very enthused to create their own african silhouettes. The children were first tasked with creating a warm background for their art piece using pastels or watercolours. Once the backgrounds were finished, students used graphite pencils on black carboard to create their silhouettes. Silhouettes were then carefully placed on their savannah backgrounds.
