The announcement that Neverlanders by Tom Taylor was awarded CBCA Book of the Year, has resulted with a spotlight shining on Graphic Novels.
Graphic Novels
Graphic Novels are simply defined as a novel in comic strip, that is, it uses sequential art to aid the telling of the story. Unlike comic strips, the story is usually contained in one book with complex plots.
It is a myth that it is not real reading.
Graphic Novels are:
Manga
Manga is a graphic novel created in Japan, and has recently developed rapidly, internationally. Typically it is printed in black and white and the story is longer than a single issue so there will be volumes of a series.
Because of its origin, Manga is typically read from right to left, starting at the back of the book.
Manga is the most popular Graphic Novel in the Brigidine College library, and we are growing the Graphic Novel selection.
