“Learning is not attained by chance. It must be sought for with ardour and attended with diligence.” Abigail Adams
”Grant me a penetrating mind to understand,
a retentive memory, method and ease in learning,
the lucidity to comprehend, and abundant grace in expressing myself.
Guide the beginning of my work, direct its progress, and bring it to successful completion.”
- Extract from ‘A Student’s Prayer’ by Thomas Aquinas OP
As Term Three comes to an end, our Class of 2023 conclude their formal time at the College and prepare for the upcoming HSC examinations. The next few weeks are a period of high intensity study that will culminate in a formal set of examinations. However it is important to note that this is not the end of learning. The conclusion of the HSC examinations marks the start of the next chapter in the learning journey. A chapter that is significantly more individualised and defined by continual learning. We wish the Class of 2023 all the best as they approach their HSC examinations and prepare for the next and exciting chapter in their learning journey.
As the Class of 2023’s learning journey at the College concludes, the learning journey of our Class of 2024 continues. For some students in Year 11 this may include the conclusion of a course and for others the commencement of a HSC Extension course. All Year 11 students are encouraged to carefully consider their pattern of study and how they approach their learning as they return to the College in Term 4 for the commencement of Year 12.
For our students in Years 7-10 the break is an opportunity to rest and recharge. It is also a pertinent time for students to stop and reflect on how they are progressing in their Semester Two learning journey. At this point of the semester it is important that students reflect on their approach to learning and the effort required to achieve their learning goals set for the semester and the year. It is important to note that it is never too late for students to engage more profoundly with their learning and challenge themselves.
Year 11
As Year 11 courses draw to a close, many students are looking towards Year 12 and making decisions regarding their pattern of study. If students are considering discontinuing a course, they must complete the Stage 6 Application to Change Course form and have a conversation with the relevant teacher. It is also important to note that no change will be made until the Year 11 Final Report has been published. Please do not hesitate to contact the College should there be any questions regarding the above.
On a final note, as we depart Brigidine College we would like to wish all of the girls and their families the very best for the learning journey that lies ahead. We encourage the girls to work hard, practice kindness, to take chances and to be amazing.
As Yasmeen so eloquently reminded us in her final address, girls can do anything, but Brigidine girls can do everything.
