Year 12 Outdoor Education & Environmental Studies: Cycling Overnight Camp

In Week 2, the Unit 4 OES class cycled from Glenrowan to the Winton Wetlands to camp the night, before returning the following day.

With pleasant, clear, and sunny skies, the students meandered their way along quiet rural roads before entering the reserve, utilising the many bike paths that run through the area. We stopped at sites such as Bill Friday Swamp and Seven Mile Swamp, taking data on the current health of the environment through water and soil testing, as well as learning about the Indigenous history and conflicting ideologies of the use of the Mokoan / Winton Swamp.

We made camp at Green’s Hill with a cracking fire under the stars, before riding back to Glenrowan the following day. This concludes the practical side of Year 12 Outdoor & Environmental Studies for the year, which involved a camp at Anglesea and a mountain biking excursion at the Indigo Epic Trail in Beechworth.

Thanks to all students for a fantastic year so far, and I wish them luck as they knuckle down to prepare for exams in the near future. Also, thank you to Ms Karen Mascas for coming along on the trip.
