The wonderful year in sports across our Primary and Secondary students continue to flourish in Terms 2 and 3.  Many thanks to all our outstanding students for all doing their best with smiles on their faces.  I am excited to share with you updates on our College Sports.

College Athletics Carnival, Year 3 to 9

The college athletics carnival for Year 3 to Year 9 was conducted at Victoria University Athletics track. The athletics carnival winners include the top two fastest runners, longest throwers and highest jumpers, in each age (male and female) grouping per event.  The winners will then go through to the next round, and we are all very excited about. The results will feature in next sports update in Term 4.

Year 5/6 Girls Soccer team

On Wednesday 24 July,  our Year 5/6 Girls Soccer team travelled to Truganina Soccer club to participate for the first time for the best divisional SSV primary girls' soccer team title. It was a cold and windy day, but the excitement and confident levels were high.

Our team played their best and finished second overall. Coming second was an outstanding team effort which we all should be very proud of.  Notable mentions go to the team’s goalkeeper Kusum Paudel whose courage and determination as the smallest person on the pitch, inspired one and all. Kusum made many difficult saves and only let through two (2) goals on the day by our forward/midfielder Eden Geleta; and well done to Charlotte Kiernan who stopped a crucial goal with her nose.

Many thanks to all our parents who braved the wind to come out to show their support of the team. Many thanks also to our super coaches Mr Leonardis and Miss Hutton for their wise words and encouragement.

CSEN Cross Country Championships

On Thursday 25 July, was a record-breaking day for our College secondary school athletes at the CSEN Cross Country Championships at Bundoora Park. The way was cold, wet and muddy conditions on a very challenging 3km and 4km up and down course. Our College finished second overall in Division 3 with our 19 top ten finishes from our squad of 23 runners.

We also had two top finishes with Year 8 students, Savinu Liyanage finishing first in his division (and 5th overall), and Chloe Kiernan finishing 2nd in her division.

The College U14 girls' team of runners winning their age group division pennant and our U13 boys' team of runners winning their age group division pennant.

We would like to thank all parents for dropping off their children at 7am and for their support. Our thanks also extend to all our teachers and learning assistants, who attended to help with marshalling.

Beyond Christway

Our last sporting highlight and probably the most impactful comes from Year 7 student Noah Chambers, who travelled to Indonesia for an Equip church mission trip. He gave Christway College Sporting jerseys and sporting equipment out to the children of the Indonesian local village of Le Cardenie.

The joy on the children’s faces and the fact that young Noah thought of them from another country instilled hope into their lives. Congratulations to Noah for instilling the Christway values of being a person of integrity and providing a positive and Godly influence into the world around him.
