University of Newcastle

Bachelor of Surveying degree program.

Surveying is a great career choice for students who enjoy maths, like outdoor activities, and enjoy using the latest technology (such as drones, robotic equipment, computer software, satellites, etc).

Whilst many people see surveyors working locally, careers can include aerial mapping (drones, aircraft, satellites), hydrographic surveying (mapping the bottom of rivers, lakes and oceans), Geographic information Systems (digital mapping and data analysis); town planning and land development; engineering and industrial measurement; and importantly, land boundary definition and management.

There is a shortage of surveyors across Australia, and in particular in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. This has resulted in a strong employment marketplace for surveying degree graduates.

The University of Newcastle have recently developed two new surveying programs, to run alongside their existing Bachelor of Surveying degree (4 year program). Students can now enrol in a Diploma in Surveying (a one year program), or an Associate Degree in Surveying (a two year program). These new programs offer students a qualification that will assist their careers in the area of field assistance, and general office tasks. To ultimately become a registered surveyor in Australia, students will still need a Bachelor of Surveying, but students can build toward the bachelors degree, through completion of the Diploma or Associate degree (earning credits for prior completions when moving to the higher degree level).

Attached is a brochure outlining some information relating to the Surveying programs at The University of Newcastle.
