U15 GIRLS CHAMPIONS CUP BASKETBALL - ELITE 8

On Tuesday, August 27th, the Under 15 Girls Basketball team competed in the Elite 8 Round of the prestigious Champions Cup competition at the State Basketball Centre.

In Game 1, Mount Ridley were drawn against Maribyrnong Sports Academy and in a very entertaining, see-sawing affair, went down by 4 points.

In Game 2, Mount Ridley were up against Caulfield Grammar School. After a tight first half, Mount Ridley were able to increase the defensive intensity and come away as convincing winners.

In Game 3, we played against Flinders College, who were going into the game undefeated, having won their games by 20+ points. A win would send us through to the medal rounds, a loss would send us home. We jumped out of the gates and got out to a 13 point lead, however, we weren't able to maintain it and ended up going down by 4 points to the eventual winners.

This result placed Mount Ridley 5th overall in the Champions Cup. A fantastic achievement as it is the first ever team from Mount Ridley to progress this far in this elite level tournament. The girls now look forward to the Australian Schools Championships in December. We thank the school community for their support.
