Grade Prep
Grade 1
Grade 1 students have been focussing on Line, Colour, Shape and Texture this term. They have created some wonderful work this term including their amazing Texture Lions for their all-important Learning Tasks. Grade 1 students have also created the most beautiful Frida Kahlo style self-portraits by decorating their photos with brightly coloured flowers, leaves, animals and jewellery. Grade 1 students have also create Black cats using black paint and forks and some excellent Minecraft Selfies as well.
Grade 2
The extremely talented Grade 2 students have been learning all about the Elements of Art this term, particularly, Shape, Colour, Value, Texture and Line. They’ve created many wonderful artworks such as their complementary colour bird projects which was their learning task this term. Grade 2 and 3 students celebrated Black Cat Appreciation Day with a special line project where they decorated their work with as many different lines as possible. In addition to this, Grade 2 students have explored the life and works of world renown artists such as Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Paul Klee and Vincent Van Gogh.
Grade 3
This term began with Grade 3 students investigating the life and works of a variety of well known artists. They explored how different artists used Line and Colour in their work. Grade 3 students used Line, Shape and Colour to create their wonderful Sugar Skulls for their Learning Tasks this term. Grade 3 students this term have also experimented with how warm and cool colours can be used to create unique artworks.
Grade 4
This term Grade 4 students have been expanding on their knowledge of the Elements of Art and further developing their drawing and painting skills. They have produced some phenomenal pieces of art this term and should be incredibly proud of their efforts so far this semester. The Grade 4 Learning task this term required students to learn about the life and work of artist Gustav Klimt. Students were asked to recreate their own versions of Klimt’s famous work, ‘The Tree of Life’. They used gold paint and personal patterns and symbols to represent important aspects of their own lives.
As the warmer weather approaches and nature blooms, it’s the perfect time to get out those art supplies over the holidays and create something beautiful.
There are also a range of free activities available for families to enjoy in the city over the September holidays such as;
‘Follow the Green Brick Road’ - 17 September–2 October | NGVA, KHT and ACMI
These September school holidays, bring the kids to ACMI, The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia and the Koorie Heritage Trust, to join in the Green Brick Road Art Hunt! Follow the clues to find some special artworks that explore ideas of sustainability and the environment – and learn how art can help us think about important issues. Great prizes up for grabs!
Be creative, have fun and stay safe.
