From the Principal

Class Team

Dear MRC Community,

By the time you read our latest edition of the Newsletter, we will be approaching the end of Term 3. The Term 3 holidays will provide a great opportunity for students and staff to relax a little, or to consolidate in the case of Year 12 VCE students.

WeShare/Parent Teacher Interviews

Our WeShare/Parent Teacher interviews will take place in the final week of Term 3 – Thursday September 19.  These events provide the opportunity for open discussions regarding student performance and to set goals for improvement. Students should use the holiday to reflect on achievement and commit to strategies in Term 4. If you missed the opportunity to make an appointment, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers to discuss their progress.

Preparation for Year 12 exams

While most staff and students will be relaxing over the holidays, our Year 12 students will be busy completing tasks, or in the case of the scored VCE Year 12 students, revising their notes and preparing for their practice exams. These exams commence during the first week of Term 4. Students will be supervised by staff during these days and will be provided with valuable feedback. The final day of timetabled classes for Year 12 will be Monday October 21.  Following that, there will be the annual celebration day events, including an excursion to Funfields, Year 12 Breakfast and the final Year 12 Assembly.

College Events:

We have had an action packed end to Term 3 with numerous incursions and excursions, including to NGV, The Zoo and Kangan TAFE and others.  This week also saw our Year 9s attend the Anglesea Discovery Camp.  For our P-6s, they enjoyed a BBQ to celebrate Footy Day. Please take the time to peruse the following pages which are full of our students embracing different learning opportunities.

One of the most exciting events we have had over the past few weeks has been our College Production of Moana Jr. Congratulations to all involved. It was a pleasure to watch our students from across the College singing and dancing their hearts out.

Thank you to the PFA for their hard work organising and running our Father’s Day Stall.  We hope that all families enjoyed a special day celebrating the father figures in their life.

We also celebrated R U OK? DAY on Thursday September 12. RUOK Day is a National day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling with life.  We will raise awareness for R U OK? DAY at MRC through a variety of targeted activities.  These include:

  • staff being encouraged to wear an item of clothing that was yellow so as to promote healthy and meaningful conversations about mental health and checking in on each other;
  • recess and lunchtime activities;
  • cupcakes for students involved in activities;
  • R U OK? Day merchandise and handouts;
  • our Doctors in Secondary Schools program promoted services such as Headspace.

Following last week’s reminder, please don’t forget about the transition to Summer Uniform for Term 4.

I look forward to a refreshed return in Term 4. Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable term break. See you when classes resume on Monday October 7.

Enjoy your weekend.

Warm regards,
