Later this week we will open up the booking portal for Parent Teacher Interviews on Monday 7th October. Interviews will be held on Webex, and staff availability will range from midday until 730pm. These will be an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's progress so far this Semester and to share common goals for the last weeks of the year. Monday the 7th of October will be a student-free day, you are very welcome to invite your child to attend the interview session alongside you.
From time to time, students like to bring in items from home to help them forge connections with peers in the yard. This can be a really great way to scaffold social relationships especially if it is something that others can share the use of (like a basketball or game). Other students benefit from bringing a certain fidget that has been pre-arranged with the teacher for use during work time.
What often happens though, is that we go through periods where it seems like the 'done thing' for students to bring lots of items from home because everyone else does. This can, as you imagine sometimes lead to competitiveness (who has the most beanie boos? Whose footy card collection is the biggest?) and definitely makes it difficult for classrooms to operate without clutter and distraction. Not to mention the stress that can consume children if they misplace a special belonging.
We encourage you to chat to your child about the things that they bring to school and if necessary, limit these to one special fidget or sports item. More importantly, it is vital that anything brought to school is clearly named (remember names fade over time so often need a refresh) and is not a precious irreplaceable belonging. If you are not sure about the suitability of something, please chat to your class teacher.
Take care Kalinda, you matter to me.
