Week 9 - Out of  Bounds Areas

Week 10 - R U Ok? Day

Week 8 - Using the high 5

At our school, we teach students the "High 5" strategy to help them manage conflicts and solve problems on their own. The High 5 steps are:

  1. Talk Friendly –  Use kind and polite words to express how they feel.
  2. Talk Firmly – If the problem continues, use a firm voice to clearly communicate feelings.
  3. Ignore – Sometimes, it's best to simply ignore the situation and not give it any attention.
  4. Walk Away – If ignoring doesn't work, walk away from the situation
  5. Report – If the problem persists, students are encouraged to report it to a teacher or trusted adult.

We also teach students the importance of immediately reporting ongoing or serious issues to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Please support your child by reinforcing these steps at home, so they feel confident using the High 5 strategy in school.

Are You OK? Day

  • Are You Ok? Day Free Dress will be held on Thursday, 12th September - Wear something yellow - No cost to students
  • Yellow Cup Cakes will be on sale at morning tea to celebrate the day. Cupcakes will be $1.

R U OK? Day is coming up on the 12th of September, and it's an important time to check in with each other and ask the simple question, "Are you okay?" This day reminds us to look out for one another and encourage open conversations about mental health. We encourage parents to engage in these discussions at home and help their children understand the importance of reaching out and offering support to friends and family. It's a great opportunity to teach our kids about empathy and the power of listening. Let's work together to create a community where everyone feels safe to speak up.

If you'd like more resources or information on how to start these conversations, please see the link below.

Starting the Conversation...

Here are some questions parents/carers can ask to delve deeper into  your child's life at school.

Which school friends would you like to catch up with over the holidays?

What would you do?

How were you a good friend today?

How did you help someone today?

Who visited the school/class today? What did they do?

Who teaches you Respectful Relationships and what do you learn?

Respectful Relationships Education (RRE)

Holiday Screen Time and Online Safety

As the holidays approach, we recognise that many students will be spending more time online. To support our commitment to fostering respectful relationships both online and offline, we encourage students to remain safe and considerate while navigating the digital world. Here’s how you can support these efforts at home:

Internet Safety

  • Personal Information: Remind students not to share personal details, such as their address, phone number, or school, online.
  • Privacy Settings: Encourage them to use privacy settings to control who can view their information.
  • Recognising Risks: Help them identify online dangers, such as unknown contacts or suspicious links.
  • Reporting: Advise them to report any uncomfortable or unsafe interactions to a trusted adult.

Respectful Relationships

  • Kindness and Empathy: Emphasize the importance of being kind and understanding in all interactions.
  • Communication Skills: Teach students to express themselves respectfully and listen actively to others.
  • Boundaries: Explain the importance of respecting personal space and others’ feelings.
  • Conflict Resolution: Offer strategies for handling disagreements in a respectful and constructive manner.

How You Can Help

  • Open Dialogue: Have regular conversations with your child about their online experiences and encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings.
  • Model Behavior: Demonstrate respectful communication and online habits in your own interactions.
  • Monitor Activity: Keep track of your child’s online activity and use parental controls to manage their internet use effectively.

Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a safe and respectful online environment for all students.

HATS, HATS, HATS

As the summer season approaches, we want to remind everyone about the importance of staying sun-safe while enjoying the sunny weather.

  • Green School Hats: All students are required to bring their green school hats to school every day. This helps protect them from the sun and ensures they can participate in outdoor activities safely.
  • Pack the Hat: Please ensure your child packs their green school hat each day. This is crucial for their sun protection.
  • Shade Play: Students who do not bring their hats will be limited to playing in undercover areas to stay protected from the sun.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all students.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is an annual project run each year at our school.  We ask that students donate a gift to be packed in shoeboxes which are then sent to children in need around the world.

What to include:

Families are asked to donate an item, typically including toys, school supplies, and hygiene items. The goal is to provide practical and fun gifts that will bring joy to children who might not otherwise receive anything.

What NOT to include:

Candy; toothpaste; gum; used or damaged items; scary or war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

Playgroup

Wednesdays 9:00am to 10:30am. Follow the Red Flags at the Prep Precinct. Bring your GREAT MATES hat, morning tea and a water bottle (and parent)!!

Playgroup supports children and families to build relationships, skills and confidence through play.  All welcome.

Book Week at GREAT MATES playgroup saw many of our little mates come as their favourite book characters.  We had unicorns, a fox, a farmer and wizards.

Most of the kids couldn't decide as they all love to read books with their Mum and Dad. With the theme for Book Week being 'Reading is Magic', we had lots of activities that were magical.  We have Father's Day play and Space play days coming up.
