YEAR 11 THEATRE STUDIES PERFORMANCE

On Friday 1 November the Year 11 Theatre Studies class presented their final outcome, Where in the World is Frank Sparrow? to a wonderful audience in the Theatre. For five weeks in the lead up to the performance, students worked together to unpack their script and design sets, props, costumes, lighting and sound all of which were then put together to create the final presentation.

A big thank you to the music, audio and visual team who assisted in making the night a success.

STRINGS WORKSHOP

On Monday 4 November we had a special guest visit, Therese McCoppin who led our Year 8s and 9s in workshops throughout the day. Therese is an experienced teacher who is currently Head of Strings at Trinity Grammar. In Periods 3 and 4 the Year 8s worked on their concert repertoire pieces, El Toro and Pulse Pounding. It was great to hear about Therese’s experience with bullfighting in Spain to give context to the students.

In Periods 5 and 6 the Year 9s worked on repertoire for 2025 when they move up into the next level ensemble. The pieces covered were Colorado River Adventure and May the Rains Fall Soft. Therese was able to bring out the different aspects of these pieces which are quite contrasting.

After school, Therese then worked with Keenan Strings in preparation for their concert coming up. The two pieces are Piratitude and Basin Street Blues, again, two very contrasting pieces. Therese worked on getting the students to try and listen to other sections in the orchestra rather than being focussed only on their part.
