VCE VM BARISTA COURSE

On Tuesday 29 October, the VCE VM class went on a Barista Course excursion. We all met at McKinnon station at 8:05am, got on our train and made our way to Flinders Street Station, where we got off and walked for two minutes to the venue. We arrived around 9am just in time for the introduction to start.

Sam was our Barista Course teacher. He was a lovely guy who had a great sense of humour. He began by telling us what to expect for the day and what we would be learning. He showed us ten of the most common coffees that he's had to make in his career. The lesson began with him teaching us what each button does on the coffee machines. He got us to practice putting in the portafilter in the group head, for a good while. He came around one by one making sure everyone knew what they were doing. We slowly began learning how to add the coffee grind and put it in the machine.

The morning kept going smoothly with Sam teaching us the basic knowledge of making a coffee. We got an hour break for lunchtime, so we all headed across the road to McDonalds. We came back to the venue and kept learning about the coffees we were about to make. The afternoon kept running great and we all had a great time learning about coffee. We thanked Sam for everything he taught us and how comfortable he made us all feel. This opens job opportunities many of us would have never considered, maybe some of us will try and get into hospitality as a part time job now.
