Reading is Magic

Reading is Magic’ is this year’s theme for Book Week, the annual celebration of books by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. Our work during the week focussed on the shortlisted books and the children worked hard to prepare meaningful corridor displays. Then, last Friday, we enjoyed a fabulous Book Week parade where a vast array of book characters came to life.  It was wonderful to have many family members join us for our parade and to enjoy the gallery walk afterwards. Book Week provides a perfect opportunity to talk with your children about the stories they enjoy and the characters that inspire them. Books give children the language to dream, imagine different ways to be, and learn about their place in the world.

We thank our parade host, Allison and the family members who supported children in preparing their costumes.

Paralympic Games

The Paris Paralympic Games begin on Wednesday. More than 4,400 athletes from 184 nations will compete in 549 medal events. They provide a significant opportunity for family conversation and celebration around the ways athletes with disabilities display the values of determination, inspiration and courage.

Holy  Rosary Choir at Assembly

A couple of Monday afternoons ago,  we were treated to a beautiful rendition of Castle On A Cloud, a song from Les Misérables.  The girls’ singing was mesmerising and you could have heard a pin drop in the packed hall.  A special thanks to the girls who commit to  rehearsals during lunch breaks and to Zoe for her expert choir master skills!

Hats

As the UV readings are on the increase as spring approaches, so we ask that students bring their hats in their bags. Each day we will let them know when the UV readings are at 3 or above so that they may wear hats during outdoor activities including lunch and PE.

Student Free Day

This Monday 2 September we will have our Student Free Day and therefore, the school will be closed for all students. This staff professional day is the second staff day for the introduction of Holy Rosary’s Intervention Framework. TeamKids is available for families on this day.

Safety is our Right

Our new gate has provided our children and staff with increased feelings of safety and security. With this in mind, we remind all adults coming in and out of the school to ensure that the gate is firmly closed as you walk through. Failure to do so could have a detrimental effect on student safety.

Leaving Holy Rosary

It’s that time of the year when we begin planning for the new school year. An important part of this cycle is the employment of staff. It is critical that we employ the correct number of staff and ensure the highest quality candidates. To achieve this goal, we need to accurately estimate our student population in a timely manner.  Under employing and then attempting to find quality candidates at the last minute is extremely difficult, especially in this time of teacher shortage. Likewise, overemploying seriously reduces our available funds for day to day operations. It’s like walking a tightrope. The optimal outcome for your children is for us to employ the right number of staff for full classes. Therefore, we ask you to support us in these two ways:

  1. If you are leaving Holy Rosary in 2025, please let the office know as soon as you know, even if you think leaving is a possibility.
  2. Please promote Holy Rosary in the local community. Classes that have optimal numbers ensure the best learning opportunities across the board.
