Spotlight on Learning

Stage 1

2B have eagerly jumped back into learning this term!

Last week was a very exciting and busy week. We began with open classrooms for Education Week. It was fantastic to have so many parents and carers visit and participate in a range of literacy and numeracy activities with their children. The students were so excited to have you all visit and have a picnic recess with you!

On Thursday, we had our Athletics Carnival and for many 2B students, it was their first time participating in the 3-6 Carnival. They had an amazing day competing in the 100m and 200m running events and supporting their houses.

In writing, students have begun a new unit exploring how cultures and traditions are represented in different texts. Students used the see-think-wonder technique to make their own predictions about what the text ‘Drawn Together’ would be about.

Stage 2

This term, our English unit has centred around the captivating novel Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda. We've been diving deep into how the author uses dialogue to engage readers, and we've experimented with creative dialogue techniques, including the use of ellipses, dashes, and exclamatory and interrogative sentences. Additionally, we explored the use of inner monologues and rhetorical questions to provide deeper insight into a character’s thoughts and challenges. After each writing session, students practised self-editing using a checklist, focusing particularly on punctuating dialogue correctly.

In line with the excitement of the Olympics, we've been enjoying class-based soccer games, long jump, and running races. Our maths lessons have also tied into the Olympic theme, where we've been recording Australia’s medal count using tallies, and we’ve used timers to record our running times. Through this, students have gained a greater understanding of the importance of measuring in tenths, hundredths, and thousandths of a second—especially after witnessing swimmers in the Olympics win by just one one-hundredth of a second and runners winning by just one-thousandth of a second!

Maths games remain a classroom favourite for reinforcing number skills and fluency. During Education Week's open classrooms, students had the opportunity to share these games with their families, showcasing their learning in a fun and interactive way and testing their families’ number skills! Some of our maths activities have been looking at different strategies to solve multiplication problems, and explaining ideas to the class.

It has been a fun and busy start to term, and 4F should feel very proud of their gold medal efforts so far!

Stage 3

6Y

With Term 3 kicking off, we’re excited to share some highlights from the past few weeks, which have been filled with both learning and fun. This term, we celebrated Education Week and held our much anticipated Athletics Carnival. Both events were a tremendous success, showcasing the enthusiasm, talents, and community spirit that make our school so special.

Education Week was a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage in a variety of activities designed to inspire a love of learning. This year’s Education Week theme, "Proud to Belong," gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate the strong sense of community within our school. It was a time to reflect on what makes our school a special place to learn and grow, and to recognize the importance of inclusion, diversity, and togetherness. We were thrilled to welcome parents and guardians into our classrooms, where they saw firsthand how we foster a sense of belonging in our students. It was heartwarming to see students confidently share their work and experiences, proud to be part of our school community.

Our annual Athletics Carnival finally went ahead last week after weeks of delays. It was a day full of energy, sportsmanship, and excitement, and the entire school community came together to cheer on our young athletes as they competed in a variety of events. Students showed incredible team spirit by cheering for their house teams. It was wonderful to see the camaraderie and encouragement among students, with older students helping the younger ones and everyone celebrating each other’s achievements.
