Holy Cross Happenings
5/6 Camp
Last week from Wednesday to Friday the 5’s and 6’s went on a camp at ADANAC CYC in Yarra Junction.
Stopping at the park
On the way to Camp ADANAC we stopped at a park to eat and play. It had a massive slide, a big swing set, one of those big black round swings, a merry go round and so much more!
When we arrived at the camp we walked into the Gym and met some of the staff, we all sat down and had a talk then we got our cabin numbers. Then we came back to the gym and played a dodgeball game with one of the staff members, Brodie. After the game we were able to set up our cabins for a while. Then a siren went and we all had to enter the gym again to find out our Activity groups.
Activities
The activities were, the flying fox, it was really fun. We put on a harness and then we got hooked up on to a rope, we also counted down and we flew! It was a beautiful view.
We made damper, we used flour, water, salt and butter and we mixed it up. It made a gooey substance and then we put it in tin foil and then put it in the fire. We ate it with some spreads. We also had aqua ponding, we got some tools and we went to the lake and looked to see any creatures. At the low ropes we went on some obstacle courses but it was low and we had two spotters. Another activity was beach volleyball in a sand area next to the lake. We had canoeing in the lake, it was very fun and we got to choose who we got to be in a canoe with. Kate J got a little wet! Hut building was a very fun activity. Once you finished your hut the teacher in charge, Kate B tested your hut by seeing if you can fit in it, next she will kick it to test how sturdy it is and lastly she will check if it's water proof by throwing a bucket of water over the hut! We did 9 square, a very fun game to play. It's pretty hard to describe, but you have this like area with 9 squares, the middle one belongs to the king who severs the ball and you need to hit the ball out of your square into another square. If it lands in your square and you don't hit the ball, you're out! If you hit the wall, your out! And if you hit the roof, you're out! When you're out, you need to leave your square and another person will take your place. Everyone moves up, depending on how long the game has went on for, if the king gets out the person on square number 8 will take their place, and that's how you play 9 square. The last thing we did was the picture hunt which is just like a scavenger hunt. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Extra activities
We had some extra activities at the end of the day. On the first day we had a night walk where we went on a trail that led to the road and from that road we walked back to the camp. When we got back, we went on the same track again but went a different direction that led us to the big fire pit. Once we got there, we roasted marshmallows!
On night 2 we watched a movie in the 9 square room with cups of popcorn for everyone, but you may wonder what the movie we watched was? Well the movie was TOY STORY 4!!!!!!!!
Everyone loved the movie!
Meals
For breakfast we had various options such as: cereal with delicious homemade yoghurt, toast with a selection of spreads, and porridge. For lunch, we had jacket/baked potatoes, the next day before we went on the bus we had to make your own roll with a selection of meats, sauces and vegetables. For dinner on the first night we had chicken parma and on the second night we had lasagna. We are all really grateful for the food that was provided for us by the really kind staff members.
Mornings
At 7:30am the teachers came to our cabins to wake us up for breakfast which starts at 8:00am after breakfast we went on to do the activities after 2 activities or so we had morning tea.
Free Time
In free time we had many things to do, we had a basketball court to, of course, play basket ball. Above that basket ball court, you could find a hang out area with a ping pong table and a view of the basketball court. Outside on the balcony, you could find some couches and a foosball table and the foosball games were very intense! We had some trampolines to jump on and a bench to sit on with a perfect view of the lake. Lastly the gaga pit had many games played in it and was bigger than the one that we have here at Holy Cross.

By the Media Leaders
District Athletics
On Tuesday the 13th August, 36 enthusiastic athletes from Year 4, 5 & 6 represented our school at the District Athletics Carnival held at the Keilor Athletics Centre. We couldn't have been prouder of how our children conducted themselves throughout the event. There was plenty of encouragement as they cheered on their teammates, offered support to calm each other's nerves, and demonstrated excellent teamwork as the relay teams warmed up and practised their baton skills!
Junior Chef
Sacred Heart College is once again hosting it's Junior Chef competition, offering Year 4 students the chance to explore the secondary school environment while honing their culinary skills in a fun, yet challenging setting.
The first round took place on Tuesday, 6th August, where our Year 4 participants impressed the judges by making pancakes with a berry sauce. The judges praised the group for their organisational skills, attention to safety, and excellent knife work. Their plating was also noted for its consistency in both visual appeal and taste.
The next round will be held next Tuesday after school, again at Sacred Heart College. We wish our Junior Chefs the best of luck as they prepare to make and cook pasta!
Year 6 Media Leaders - Gisborne Gazette
This week, our Year 6 Media Leaders had a unique opportunity to work alongside the editor of the Gisborne Gazette, helping with the layout and cut and design of next month's issue.
They reviewed all of the articles submitted to the editor, grouped them by topic, and thoughtfully considered the appropriate banners for each section. Brian Power, who has been sharing his knowledge of putting together a local paper for many years, was very appreciative of our leader's assistance and their respectful attitude throughout the process. He guided them through the newspaper layout, including the placement of advertisements and contributions from community groups and volunteers.
We are incredibly proud of how our 6 Media Leaders conducted themselves and contributed to the community by thoughtfully helping to assemble the Gazette. Look out for the next edition of the Gazette knowing the work behind the scenes was helped by these impressive young people.
A special thank to Brian, who continues to generously share his knowledge with our children in such a practical, hands-on way.
