CURRICULUM FOCUS
This week in Mathematics, Grade 2 students are learning to use skip counting to solve multiplication problems.
VOCABULARY
Skip counting in multiplication:
Skip Counting by 2s:
- Start at 2 and count by 2s: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, etc.
- This corresponds to multiplying by 2. You can skip count by 2 five times (2, 4, 6, 8, 10), which gives you 10.
2 x 5 = 10
Skip Counting by 5s:
- Start at 5 and count by 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.
- This corresponds to multiplying by 5. You can skip count by 5 four times (5, 10, 15, 20), which gives you 20.
5 x 4 = 20
