All Saints and All Souls Day

This week, we celebrate two important Remembrance Feast Days in the Catholic tradition: the Feast of All Saints (Nov 1) and the Feast of All Souls (Nov 2).

The Feast of All Saints is a day to thank God for those who have been heroes of faith and service, bringing God’s love into the world. We celebrate and honour all the saints, those people who have lived lives that are true to God’s way. These remarkable men and women serve as examples of Christian living, inspiring us to use our lives to make a positive difference.

The Feast of All Souls allows us to commemorate the 'faithful departed' and pray for the eternal response of their souls. We remember those in Purgatory, awaiting the vision of God in Heaven, and we also gather as a community to remember all who have recently passed away. For a Christian, death is not the end, but the beginning of new life. It is the tradition of the Catholic Church to pray to God for those called into eternity. We are united with them in Christ, and in Christ we remember them.

This morning we joined together as a college community in prayer to commemorate All Souls Day. Please click on this link to view and engage in this prayer experience. As a sign of remembrance, staff and students are invited to record the names of their loved ones who have passed away in the Book of Remembrance located outside the Quiet garden. We will continue to pray for them throughout the month of November.
