Welcome to Term 4!

We hope you all had a lovely break with your families. It has been a great start to Term 4 with a few tired faces and yawns here and there due to daylight savings.

Just by looking at the photos, we had a very busy and productive time at school just before the end of Term 3 with incursions and community walks.

Motte Excursion - As part of our inquiry into the Big Question, "How are we connected to people and places?", we ventured on an exciting excursion to Motte Bakery.  Students were excited to have the opportunity to meet Ollie (the baker/owner) and ask lots of questions about how cookies are made, how long dough takes to make, and what time does Ollie have to be at the bakery? Students also presented Ollie with a book of their own cookie creations and hopefully they might spot their cookie at the Motte if it is the chosen one.  The most exciting part was when each student was given a cookie, and they couldn’t wait to get back to school and eat it. A big thank you to our parent helpers that came along.

Hail – WOW! Adding to the adventure, we were treated to an unexpected hailstorm! Students just ran to the windows and watched with amazement how quickly our school grounds were covered in a white blanket. We just had to go out and get the feel of it. For a brief moment  students thought  it was snowing.

Market – Foundation had so much fun in creating their own shops. They worked as a team and delegated jobs where each member had a task to do. It was lovely to hear lots of laughter in our foundation corridor, where students got to go and visit each stall and decide on what they would like to purchase. Students had their pretend paper money and had to work out how much each item was, and if any change is needed. We had an ice creamery, bookstore, jewellery store, bakery and cookies, handbags store, postcards, etc.

AFL Footy Colours Day – Students dressed up in their favourite team’s colours and the highlight of the day was when students were able to cheer on a match Students v Teachers. A huge thanks to our fabulous Erin in organising such an amazing event for our whole school to take part in and meet a few Western Bulldogs players and there was a big line up for autographs.

AFLW Q and A - This week we had a special visit from AFLW players! The players answered the many questions our curious students had about their lives and experiences in sport. Afterward, they led an energetic and fun clinic outside, where the Foundation students practiced some AFL skills while having loads of fun with their new role models.

Year 4 News

The Year 4 classes had an awesome day celebrating I Believe In Me Day yesterday. In the morning, we shared what makes each of us unique during circle time. We danced to a range of music showing different emotions which we enjoyed. Afterwards we created a colourful self-portrait to show the uniqueness of us all. We then joined our buddy class to make a feelings cookie that showed an emotion. Once we had eaten our yummy cookie we celebrated with a game. We loved learning all about emotions and understanding that it is important to be able to name and show different emotions.

Division Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday, 10th September, sixteen students from our school went to the Newport Athletics track to compete in the Division Athletics Carnival. The students from Year 3-6 had qualified for this event by finishing in the top two places at the District Athletics Carnival which was held at the same venue earlier in the term.

They performed remarkably well on the day. In fact, we have nine students who have qualified in individual events and one relay team who has qualified for the Western Metropolitan Region Track and Field Carnival on Tuesday 22nd October at the Keilor Athletics Track. This is by far our highest number of students who have qualified for that level of competition. We are so proud of them and wish them well.

The students who have qualified are:

  • Flynn M – finished 1st in the 100m and 200m
  • Henry L – finished 1st in hurdles and 2nd in the 100m
  • Emily B – finished 1st in the hurdles
  • Teddy N – finished 1st in the long jump
  • Luca Z – finished 2nd in the hurdles and the long jump
  • Lorelai C – finished 2nd in the hurdles
  • Noah E – finished 2nd in the 800m
  • Jono C – finished 2nd in the discus
  • 9/10 Boys 4x100m relay team (Henry L, Teddy N, Spencer C and Angus MG) – finished 1st
