Divisional Athletics

On Tuesday 10 September,  seven St Mary’s students went to the Divisional Athletics to represent the school. Some of the events we competed in were high jump, long jump and shot put. Everyone tried their best and did an amazing job at representing our school. Freddie F came 2nd in high jump, Patrick R came first in long jump and Tilly S came second in shot put so all made it through to Regionals. Congratulations to everyone who participated and thank you to Mr Mitchell and our parents for taking us.

Basketball

On Friday the 6th of September 10 boys and 10 girls from St Mary’s went to Keilor Basketball Stadium for the interschool basketball. We were all feeling excited and ready to have some fun. The boys won all of their games except for the grand final against Moonee Ponds West where we lost 19-23. The girls also won two of their five games. The whole day was spent chatting, playing basketball and eating lollies. Everyone did a really good job representing the schools and thank you to all the parents and helpers. Thank you to Mr Mitchell and Mrs Gordon for taking us.

SSV Under 12’s Hockey

I was selected in the School Sports Victoria Boys Under 12’s Hockey team. This was an exciting time for me, as representing the state of Victoria and also St Mary’s Primary School. I headed off to Cairns in the middle of August with 13 other boys from schools around Victoria to play against kids from all over Australia.

To make the team I had to make it through three selection stages at the State Hockey Centre. There were more than 100 kids at the first trial. Each time I was really nervous but I tried my best. When I found out that I made the team, I was really excited.

We trained every week from April to when we left, and on the last week at training we had our jumper presentation and I was announced Vice Captain of the team. 

I really enjoyed getting to know my team and coaches. The team played 6 games in total and we all played really well. In the end we finished 3rd which was a great result that we were all really proud. 

I had a great time and loved the experience.
