Principal's Address

Mr Greg Miller

Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of our commitment to continuously improve the learning experience at Chevalier College, I write with an update about our ongoing initiatives, based on Dr Phil Cummins' Best Use of Time Insights Report

Currently, we are prioritising the flipped learning credentialing process for self-regulation for our current Year 9 (Year 10 in 2025) and Year 10 (Year 11 in 2025) students, empowering them with skills for self-regulated learning. Over the next few weeks, Year 9 and Year 10 students will be provided time during Flipped Learning periods to complete the self-regulated credential. This will allow parents to then engage with an evening parent webinar which explores the requirements of learning from home. Once attended, parents can then make an informed decision as to whether you provide permission for your child to access learning from home for approximately 18 - 20 Flexible Mondays in 2025.

Additionally, Year 11 students who successfully completed their preliminary HSC course at the end of Term 3 will receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the Self-regulated Flipped Learning Microcredential. Mrs Graham will soon be writing to Year 11 students and parents to clarify this process. Again, this will allow parents to then engage with an evening parent webinar which explores the requirements of learning from home. Once attended, parents can then make an informed decision as to whether you provide permission for your child to access learning from home for the 2025 school year.

The parent webinars mentioned above will be hosted at the following times:

  • 7pm, Wednesday 27 November
  • 7pm, Tuesday 3 December
  • 7.30pm, Thursday 5 December

Flipped Monday Steering Committee Update

The Flipped Monday Steering Committee officially commenced its work, holding its first meeting on Monday 28 October. Mr Angus Anderson and Ms Kristy Clarke are the parent representatives who are joined by staff members Mrs Kylie Gillespie and Mrs Xiomara Biasotti, and 4 students from Years 7 and 8. Led by Mrs Graham, the Steering Committee will explore ways to improve the Flipped Monday experience for students in junior year groups. Areas of specific focus will be to ensure the provision of a focused environment which allows students to engage deeply with their material, setting a strong base for further exploration and application during the rest of the week.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create a meaningful and future facing educational experience for all students at Chevalier College.

Warm regards,

Greg Miller

Principal
