Leadership's Letter

Staff

It has been a joy to join the community at Mazenod College in 2024. While students are central to our community, as the Deputy Principal of Staff, my focus is on staff at Mazenod; both teaching and educational support staff.

There has been much discussion in media over the past few years about the changing climate for the teaching profession. It is certainly forefront in our minds as we plan for the future of Mazenod College. We know that teacher efficacy has significant impact and influence on not just our students’ academic achievements, but on their understanding of the world around them and their place in it. The role of a good teacher in a young persons’ life cannot be understated.

At Mazenod, we are so proud of the quality of teachers we have in each classroom and of the educational support staff who respond to the needs of the school. Staff members play a crucial role in schools for several reasons:

  1. Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Teachers and educational support staff work together to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where students can thrive. This includes maintaining discipline, ensuring the safety of students and maintaining academic expectations.
  2. Fostering Relationships: Positive relationships between staff and students are critical to the success of a classroom. Our young men need positive relationships both in and out of the home; those with teachers are important to their wellbeing and mindset.
  3. Supporting Student Success: Teachers and support staff are dedicated to helping students succeed academically and personally. They provide instruction, mentorship, and guidance, helping students develop essential skills for their future.
  4. Professional Development: Teachers and other education staff at Mazenod need to be equipped professionally to provide quality educational experiences for the students in their care and to keep abreast of all developments in our profession. One of the key factors in ensuring the quality of education provision is the maintenance of a highly skilled teaching force. Mazenod staff are constantly engaged in a wide variety of professional learning activities. This work is highly valued and a rich and concrete way of building a true professional learning community. Overall, the dedication and collaboration of school staff are fundamental to creating an environment where students can achieve their full potential.

Much work is done behind the scenes in ensuring your sons’ education at Mazenod is positive, affirming, supportive and helping him achieve his potential.
