Tomorrow Tennis Victoria will be bringing the Australian Open Tennis Trophies to our Friday morning assembly. This will be followed by a series of tennis sessions. As a school, we are marking this special event with a dress up day. Students are invited to come 'Dressed as your favourite sports person'. We are also having a gold coin collection towards the purchase of new sports equipment.
Tennis has been the flavour of the month, with lunch-time tennis club being held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This week, students have been learning how to play 'Down-Ball' tennis and other rally games in their teams.
Whether Halloween is your thing or not, this afternoon you have the opportunity to be entertained by our very own Spookie Ukies, who will be providing a specially creepy performance, from 4.30pm at the Mount Beauty playground.
This week, we learned that one of our students has been selected as a recipient of the NAIDOC Medal of Excellence. Each year, 25 medals are awarded across the state to selected students who have participated in the annual Primary School NAIDOC colouring and poem writing competition or the Secondary School creative design and essay writing competition. The winner of the medal will be announced at tomorrow's assembly.
Parent Teacher conferences will be held from Monday 11th - 14th November. Families are encouraged to book a time to meet with your child's teacher, during this time. All bookings can be made online via Compass. If you require assistance with this process, please contact the school.
This week, several of our Year 5 students participated in a Maths challenge with the Maths Association of Victoria. During the challenge, students were required to work collaboratively to solve challenging games and activities within a set time limit. This was our first time competing in the Virtual Maths Games Day and we will be working towards having more students compete next year.
Planning for 2025 is now well underway and I am pleased to confirm that next year, we will again be running five classes as follows: Prep/1 - Ellen, 1/2 - Kim/Steph, 3/4 - Kathryn, 4/5 - Anna, Year 6 - Hayley/Melanie. Emily, Dave, Nicole and Steph will continue to provide specialist classes, with Nicole also continuing in the role of Mental Health and Well-being Leader and Dave providing tutoring. Education support in the classroom will be provided by Angela, Bronwyn, Deirdre, Mary, Michelle, Megan and Kylie.
A reminder to families that Monday 4th November is a Curriculum Planning Day for all staff and a pupil free day for students. OSHC will be running for families who require childcare on this day. Please note that there will be no school or OSHC on Tuesday 5th November, due to the Melbourne Cup holiday.
