Cohort and Specialist Updates

Foundation:

In Foundation this term students have begun learning about the big idea Earth and our environment.

Students have learn’t about some of the natural resources found on Earth and have begun learning about the impact of garbage has on our land and oceans.

In the coming weeks students will be attending our final excursion for the year at CERES where they will learn how they can make an impact on protecting the Earth.

Year 1/2:

In year 1/2, students have been looking into Australia and its weather for inquiry. They have looked at the different states and territories, and how the North and South of Australia differ in climate. Students will be heading to Scienceworks in week 6 to look at the science behind weather.

In Maths, students have been learning about money. We have been ordering the value of Australian coins, learning all the ways to make a dollar using coins and learning to make equal amounts of money.

Year 3/4:

It has been an exciting start to Term 4 for our 3/4 students as they headed to Camp Weekaway for their annual 3/4 camp! Students enjoyed a number of activities such as archery, the flying fox, laser tag, camp cooking, the possum glider, and hut building. It was amazing to see students develop independence, responsibility, and a range of social skills by creating new friendships and strengthening their team-building skills. We are looking forward to continuing learning and building on student knowledge throughout the last term of the year.

Year 5/6:

We are thrilled to share that the 5/6 classrooms have just been updated with brand-new furniture and chairs! The students are loving their refreshed learning spaces, and it’s brought a wave of excitement to the start of the term.

This term, our inquiry topic is all about Earth & Space, where students will explore fascinating concepts about our planet and beyond. Students will explore how Earth is a component within a solar system and use models for investigating systems at astronomical scales. In literacy, they will dive into writing narratives, focusing on using rich descriptions and complex sentences to bring their stories to life.

The Grade 5 students have also begun their new bike education unit, a fun and practical program that builds important safety skills. Meanwhile, the Grade 6s are starting their preparations for the big milestone of graduation!

And finally, a special announcement: the 5/6 Big Day Out this year will be at Luna Park! We’re sure it’s going to be an unforgettable experience for everyone. Stay tuned for more updates!

Cultivating Community:

School Food Garden

Firstly I'd like to  give a big Thankyou to all the families who helped out with chicken care in the holidays- we so appreciate your help!

Unfortunately I also have some sad news-  our chicken named Red died during the holidays. The chicken died peacefully, it did not seem unwell so we can only guess that it has died of old age. We are now planning to have just the 2 chickens for a while to give them a bit more space in the coop.

Onto more positive news: Spring has well and truly sprung in the school food garden, our plants are growing rapidly and we are harvesting lots of delicious veggies this week including snow peas, purple broccoli, lettuce and silver beet. We also have many beautiful flowers blooming, keep an eye out for flower posies for sale at the upcoming garden stall after school on Fridays.

Happy gardening everyone.
