FAITH MATTERS

MRS ALISON WRIGHT - DIRECTOR OF FAITH & MISSION

End of Year Mass

On Tuesday this week, our school community gathered together in St Mary’s Church to celebrate the hard work, dedication and achievements of 2024. While this may not mark the end of the school year for everyone, it was a moment to reflect on and honour the contributions of our Year 12 students and the staff and students who will be leaving St Mary MacKillop College at the end of the year. The church was at capacity and it was lovely to see so many family and friends join us in this special celebration. Our students were reverent during Mass and I thank Fr James for leading. We are grateful to have him in our community.

My sincere thanks to all students and staff directly involved in either setting up, reading, music ministry, special ministers of the Eucharist or in any other way of assisting and helping me.

We keep in our prayers the Year 12 students who are beginning their final exams next week, those who are entering the workforce (or who may have already started) and those who are contemplating what their future after secondary school might look like:

Gracious and Loving God,

Grant our Year 12 students wisdom and discernment in their choices, courage to pursue their dreams, and strength to overcome any challenges they may face. May they carry the values they've learned here with them, and may their future be filled with purpose, joy, and Your guiding presence.

Bless each one of them, Lord, and watch over them in all their endeavours. May they always know that they are deeply loved and supported. In Your name, we pray.

Amen.

Jesus light of the world, guide us

St Joseph, journey with us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us.

Friday 25th October - World Teachers’ Day

Today is World Teachers Day with the theme “Hat’s off to teachers!”

As a Catholic school, we remember that Jesus is often regarded as the first teacher in a spiritual sense because of the profound wisdom and guidance he provided to his followers. His teachings emphasize love, compassion, forgiveness and justice, all of which continue to inspire people across the world.

Thanks to the staff who came to the Chapel this morning and joined in a little bit of fun (as well as prayer!).

All Saints and All Souls Day - November 1 and 2

Each year on the first two days of November, Catholics throughout the world celebrate the Communion of Saints. On the first day of November, we call the Feast of All Saints; on the second day of November, we call the Commemoration of All Souls.

On the feast of All Saints, we remember the many good men and women who followed Jesus’ way by living lives of servanthood. They cared for those in need and put others first before themselves. They lived the true message of the Gospel. As a Josephite school, we especially remember St Joseph and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop on this day.

The Feast of All Souls is a significant day in our Liturgical Calendar because it allows us to remember and pray for all those who have died. We gather as one in holding all these people in our hearts and prayers.
