Borrowing and Student Voice
Our Library continues to thrive! We’re on track to double our student borrowing numbers from 2024—a tenfold increase since 2022! It’s wonderful to see so many students visiting the Library independently before school, during breaks, and after school.
Students are also taking an active role in shaping our collection, regularly requesting new titles and sharing their favourite reads. We’re excited to announce that a large order of new books is on its way, featuring popular genres such as romance and manga—by far our most requested categories this term!
Special Event: Reading for Pleasure Afternoon
On Monday 27th October, we were delighted to host a Reading for Pleasure Afternoon in collaboration with our School Community Hub. The event welcomed several of our Karen, Karenni, and Chin students and their families, celebrating the joy of reading together.
Our Reading for Pleasure Leader, Mrs Millard, shared insights into the benefits of reading for enjoyment, explained how the school supports this initiative, and offered tips for families to encourage reading at home.
Guests enjoyed a book raffle, received reading-themed showbags, and shared some delicious food together—it was a wonderful afternoon of connection, conversation, and community.
A big thank you to Sophia Bath, Kristy Gray, Paw Ner Moo, Du Way and Rebecca Sandlant for your work leading up to the event and on the day.
Our Sponsors for this event were: ‘Book and Paper’, ‘Lamont Books’ and ‘Campion’ who generously donated books for our raffle.
Recent Displays
Our latest displays were so fun to make and certainly did the trick of grabbing the attention of our students. The ‘Books that are now movies’ display initiated many conversations, with some students surprised to know that their favourite movie was actually based on a book! Talking about books helps bring reading to life! When students, teachers, and families share their thoughts about what they’re reading, it builds understanding, boosts confidence, and inspires others to read too. Even a quick chat about a favourite character or story can spark curiosity and strengthen connections between home and school.

Scholastic Book Sale
Looking for the perfect Christmas gift? We’ve got your shopping sorted!
Join us for our Scholastic Book Sale on the 1st and 2nd of December in the Monash Building.
Books make wonderful gifts—they last far longer than wrapping paper and toys, spark imagination, and create lasting memories. Every book purchased also supports our school’s reading programs and helps us expand our Library collection.
Exciting News
We are expecting new shelving and furniture to arrive in the next couple of weeks as we implement the redevelopment of some key library spaces to better support student learning, engagement and library operations.
We will be creating a small study space dedicated to support our senior students with independent learning and exam preparation. Features of this space include study desks, whiteboards, couches and specific senior texts.
As the love of reading grows at the college, we recognised the need to expand our non-fiction collection. To this end, we have planned for an expansion which includes new shelving, a reorganised collection including genre and subject signage which will enhance our student browsing and borrowing experience.
Our Reading for Pleasure space is also being revamped! We have designed a beautiful area for students and staff to engage with a range of curated reading materials. I will include photos in the next edition of the newsletter. Stay tuned😊
